It'll look like a flat shelf on the timing graph - see top portion of graph below. The problem is, you need to command your timing in the base spark tables with an M6 because the MPH threshold is set at 255. Autos have it set much lower (like 3 I believe). What this means is when you let off the gas, it'll use the timing set in the Base Spark In Gear table instead of the High Octane Spark Table for an M6 unless you change the threshold. The BSIG spark table isn't as good because it doesn't have the resolution of the High Octane table and it's also where idle timing is commanded. So, if you set the decel timing right, all is well and good on decel...but then your idle timing is affected. I plan on playing with it a little this spring (once the snow melts) to see if I can fix it by changing the threshold.
The other option is to have him try and fix it with the throttle cracker or throttle follower tables. If you add in a little more air through the IAC, that might help cure some of the surging. Just don't add too much or you'll get a cruise control effect.

That issue aside, I have an even smaller cam (228/228 .589 116LSA) and I get a little bucking if I try to idle around in first from 1200-1400ish... and I consider my idle tune to be pretty much perfect. You are just gonna have to learn to drive for the cam to some extent. It's not a factory cam and they can't always be made to act exactly like them. Sometimes it's possible, but this off-idle surging while putting around in an M6 is VERY common. I just don't creep around in first the way I did before anymore and I don't have to worry with it. Most of the time it's only when steady-state that this occurs; not on accel/decel.

no i agree that i need to learn to drive the cam.. but c'mon that is annoying and i know people with bigger cams that do not have this problem at all... Are you running a stock gear or 4.10???
And my bucking occurs on both the accel/decel...

Really, I'd like to keep you from throwing money at the problem (in the way of tuning software, gears, etc), because that's how I deal with issues, and it hasn't done much for me ![Sad](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_sad.gif)

Don't expect 4.10 gears to help much either. 231/237 112 cam here with 4.11's and I still have that surge. I'm finding that timing and fueling play a role here. Since the bad weather hit I havn't been able to get much futher but increase timing for base idle started to help. It seems that the overlap of the cam also plays a role in tuning low rpm A/F. Once I start VE tuning, after a few changes the bucking gets worse. If I smooth the map in the problem area's it gets better again. I think the reverb or w/e you want to call it gives a somewhat false EQ when letting off the gas returning to idle with an M6. Something of that sort if you get around what I'm saying.

I am dealing with the same problem of bucking but i am contributing it to gears. I have a M6 with 3.23s. I know i need gears badly. That is why most companies recommend using 4.10s with these size cams. And yes there probably can be a little better tuning done to your car its just finding a really good tuner who can do it. And with those things problem should be solved. Goodluck

I'm running the 231/237 from Comp Cam. the only problem I get is when slowing down to a stop sign or stop light. rpm's kicks up to around 1500+- 200 rpm's . I'm running m6 / cnc ls6 heads and ported tb, ls6 intake. my tuner had it great till summer. when I started using a/c it would stumble when I got to a stop (light/sign) so when tuner adj for that is when I got the high idle. as for surge yea! I get it but, only when I'm cruising slow. rpm's at +- 200rpm around 1000 rpm's. guess thats from still running stock gears. so I think ur cam can be tamed some more. I'm getting HPTuners when I get back from middle east and start to learn how to tune. my tuner lives 200 miles away.
so my advise is to learn how to tune ur own cause that way you cant point fingers. hope this helps some.
