Quick tuning question

Quick tuning question I'm new to everything about LS1's, so I'm learning little by little. My question: Can a bad tune affect the performance of the 4L60E? The guy I bought my car from said it has HP Tuners on it and his roomate has tuned it a couple of times. Now, two months later, the "service engine" light is on and the tranny is not shifting right. The tranny has felt strong the whole time and this happened from one second to the other. Does it need to be tuned again?
Of course a bad tune can screw things up, but it can also be a grey area as well...If your talking about the 98 in your sig your talking about a near 10 year old car/tranny so it could also just be age & wear.
FWIW 98's have the least amount of TM of all the years so unless the tuner did something nuts with the pressure settings its probably not in the tune IMO.

Yes it is the 98 Formula. After the light came on it started shifting like crap then a little while ago on the freeway the light turned off and all was fine it pulled as it did before, good. And now the light is back on and I'm back to the same problem.
