Default NJ Inspection (OBDII check and Hypertech)

I'm really trying to get a solid concrete answer as to whether or not I'm ok going through NJ state inspection with my Hypertech Programmer installed in my car. Will the OBDII scan still be able to perform the readiness test so I can pass emissions? When I questioned Hypertech about this, all they said was "we are EPA legal in all 50 states". That doesn't really help me as my car has always passed the tailpipe test before the OBDII started in NJ. I asked again if the facility will be upset, they then said "no, that's why we are EPA legal".

Has anyone had any experience with OBDII inspection with aftermarket tuning (i.e. Hypertech, Superchips, Diablo, pcmforless, madz28, etc)? Thanks!

in nj, as long as you pass visual, and readiness tests through the computer, youll be ok. Ive passed NJ inspection with computer tuning.

where are you located in NJ?

You should be fine. If you've recently replaced the battery (or done something else to affect the readiness tests) do a couple OBDII drive cycles to be sure www.obdii.com/drivecycle.html

Central NJ. I'm just hoping that the Hypertech programmer installed in my car is not going to cause confusion with the OBD2 testing machine and make the car unreadable to the OBD2 machine.

Am I gonna have a problem, or am I worring about nothing? I've done several Google searches with OBD2 check failed and Hypertech, never saw any scenarios of this happening.

Right now, the car has no SES light and it's been at least a year since I had my battery disconnected. And I see very little smoke when it's running (mostly on a cold start on a colder morning).

There's nothing the Hypertech does that will affect the OBDII test. None of the parameters it alters will make anything unreadable or affect the readiness tests.

State inspection.

i420tom, I got the Hypertech several years ago when it was the only option for retuning the stock computer. I know there are other options today, but I already have the Hypertech and it seems to work well in my car. Plus I can return to stock if I really have to.

i had one way back when also. i sold it on ebay and got 260 for it. I then borrowed my friends laptop and bought a usb cable. I was able to save my 100% stock tune to laptop and then cd for backup. Got a custom tune and put in my car myself.

no downtime, can return to stock at anytime i want, olny cost me $100.
i ended up with a much better custom tune with whatever i wanted and some cash leftover.
spent the 160 leftover on some bolt ons!!!!!!!
