Problem with Predator
Will I have to return the Predator back to the guy I bought it from to unlock it or can I contact Diablosports and have them do it?
Thanks!

Check the 3rd page...

It needs to be disassembled and critical parts need to be replaced to unlock it. That's why they charge $100.

HOWEVER, when you restore the original backup to your car (which removes the Diablo tune from the car) the Predator is now unlocked and no longer "married" to that vehicle, and as I said above - it can then be used on another vehicle, provided of course that it's supported by that model Predator.
that's why that return policy on page 3 of that manual states that you MUST restore the original backup to your car before sending back the Predator... so that it is unlocked.

However, again... if you restore the original stock backup tune to your car first, the predator is then unlocked/unmarried from your car and can be used on another car. It is only locked/married once you install a tune to your car and it creates the backup, that's it. if the backup is restored to the car, the predator is then unlocked and is back to the same condition as if you just bought it.
...I contacted Mike at Diablosport (sprayjunkie), he'll be chiming in shortly...maybe he can explain it clearer than I am...

The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
There is an older revision on the U7198 (1.03) that even upon restoring the backup to the vehicle it is married to will not allow the tool to be unlocked.
ANY revision newer than 2.00 will allow the tool to be unlocked once the original backup has been restored. At that point the tool may be used on any other supported application.
If the tool in question has the 1.03 rev, it may well have been restored, but it is still married.
IF it was restored, it can be unlocked for $99 plus shipping.
IF it was not restored, there is nothing that can be done with it.
IF the tool has a newer revision, and is still locked, then the backup was not restored, and the tool cannot be unlocked.
To the OP: please call us at 561-908-0040x1 with the tool powered up, so we can figure this out.
Thanks
Mike

That's actually how the Predator software upgrade process seems to work.
When I had mine upgraded I had to return my car program to stock (remove the Predator tune) and then returned the unit to Diablo to reflash the upgrade software. If I had not done that I would have lost my factory tune as they essentially create a new blank tool when upgrading the handheld software.
