Wow, there's a thread right below yours with the exact same question:

It should be fine. You just need to have the '99 calibration flashed into the '02 PCM.

Correct. But the operating system and calibrations are different. If you have a stock '99 and throw in a stock '02 PCM with a stock '02 tune, it'll run. But, it won't run as well. Take for example the timing map - on the '99 it's way different.

operating system and calibrations? so if if get my hands on a 99-02 and changed the settings to work with my vehicle, I will have no issues? what I am trying to do is avoid down time on my car

What's wrong with your PCM now?

Do not flash a 00-03 cal into a 99 pcm. the adress offsets are a wee bit different.

However a 02 pcm is a drop in using o2 code.

2 questions?

Why not? There are people running '02 OS's in '99 and '00 cars without trouble as far as I know.

My friend's '99 had the same factory OS as my other friend's '00, just minor differences in the calibrations. Why isn't this a problem?

We're both talking a full flash here, right? Not just cal's...

nothing. I can't get my hands on a '99 pcm but I can on the other. I don't want to send the pcm out of the car have and have the car immobile

What modifications do you currently have? Your Crank Position data will be different than the "new" 02 pcm's. You may or may not set a code for it-which you'll have to have someone perfrom a CPRelearn. Your VIN data will also not match up. Your best hope for no problems would be if the "new" 02 pcm has the same trans, hardtop/VERT, F or Y body as your original. You still stand a strong chance of running into the CPR problem. Some of the big sponsors now have little boxes that they can ship out to you so you can reflash a new Operating system and calibration rather than you having to send in your pcm and effectively down your car. I hope that is what you are trying to get at.
