Default Timing on stock motor?

I am trying to see if my timing is advanced so I can spray more. Looking at it with a snap on scanner looks like about 21*-21* at idle. At around 3000 rpm around 40*. Would my timing be advanced or at stock or even retarted? Thanks all. My current tune is mail order from Texas speed and they cant tell me if they changed the timing

You need to see what it's at during WOT. There's no way your running 40* at WOT.

My point was....you spray nitrous at WOT. What your timing is at part throttle (3,000rpm) or at idle doesn't matter. You need to see where you're at when you have it floored.

If you're cam'd, chances are your timing is set close to 28* @ WOT. If you want to spray, the rule of thumb is -2* for every 50hp of N2O.

I geuss the scanner fluxuates so much to hold the motor at 6500 or so may be hard to try and read the timing. So do I got any other options here? I guess I could see if my buddy could bring home his scanner again.

It shouldn't fluctuate much at all during WOT. To be safe, you could have someone sit in the passenger seat and call out the timing numbers displayed. It should be somewhere between 24 and 29 degrees (fairly steady) for WOT.

What SSpdDmon means by WOT is wide open throttle regardless of RPM,
or, more specifically, from peak torque to peak power, not just at 6500 RPM;

you can't just increase the RPM to 6500 and look at timing...
you have look at timing as you go from peak torque to peak power under load.

It's not gonna be the same through the band at WOT, the 99 table has a HUGE valley in it.

they should be able to tell you this, they should have a STOCK file and your file... they just might not want to take the time to do so; as doing that for everyone takes waaaaay too much time if people starting calling and asking

Dam strait they should be able to tell me that. I have nothing good to say about Texas Speed after that and wont be doing buisness with them any more. So by looking at my timing at idle there is no way to tell if it is advanced or not?

NO!
Your only option is to hook up a scanner, drive through 2nd or 3rd gear at wide open throttle, and have someone actually watch the scanner to see how much timing you have while at full throttle.

The stock timing is 22* at idle. However, this doesn't mean the rest of your timing values are stock. The PCM uses a timing table (M6) or two (A4) at idle when the throttle is closed and the vehicle is in gear or in park/neutral. Once the throttle is opened, the PCM uses two completely different tables depending on knock activity. These are known as the Spark High-Octane and Low-Octane Tables. As you can see, you cannot determine whether or not your timing has been advanced based on your timing at idle. I have included the tables I was talking about and hopefully they will be of some help.

1 - Base Spark in Gear
2 - Base Spark in Park/Neutral
3 - Spark High-Octane
4 - Spark Low-Octane
