Maybe your just need to stop beating on it. 
Tune killing my tranny?
Tune killing my tranny? I recently lost OD in my car and after tearing everything down, my tranny guy says that the computer is not grounding the third gear solenoid when 4th is engaged which is basically causing third and fourth to be engaged at the same time. I know nothing about tuning, but could something have been changed during my tuning session that would cause this? The tranny is now fixed, but he said it won't hold up if I let it shift to 4th. Any ideas? 
Umm. the only difference between 3rd and 4th is band apply.
I dont see it being that a tuner would be able to modify that. Thunder Racing is a very good tuning shop, i doubt they would ever do anything that would harm a trans.
Go get a second oppinion on the trans.

I know Thunder didn't do it. A less experienced tuner worked on my car prior to taking it to them and the tune was a little rough. Geoff is the man and has been extremely helpful with working out the tune issues the car had, I was just curious if it could be a lingering problem from the other tune.
There are things that could be done to hurt the trans.
Hard to say, if. For example if you remove torque
management but then don't give the trans enough
line pressure for the friction elements to do their job
against full motor torque, that would be bad. The
PCM ought to be commanding full line pressure by
the point you're developing your maximum torque.
Or before. Not like you're saving some for later.
If the trans guy is calling out a problem with the
electrical command signals that's a whole 'nother
class of problem. But I don't know that I buy the
description as given.
I'd just turn Thunder loose on the tranny side of the
tune and see if anything comes up looking iffy.

If I get another daily driver, I could go that route, too. But for now, I really need the OD on interstate. What gears are you running and how high are the revs at say 70mph?
