what is crank relearn?
i had my car at futrals the other day and since i had a th350 in it, i unplugged my auto gear selector cluster ( the long black plugin)
that tells the ecu if its in drive park of neutral
and he said that in order to do something it needed to have that plugged in

The car will either have to be in park (A4) or neutral (M6) in order for the crank relearn procedure to take place.

Its a diagnostic test that allows the computer to "learn" the variations in crankshaft sensor pulses at different RPMs. Its for MISFIRE DETECTION PURPOSES ONLY. It has no affect on how the vehicle runs. It will not cause misfires. It will not cause rough running. It will ONLY cause a check engine light if its not run, and while the CEL is on and the code is set, it will not detect misfires.
If you turn the code off in the PCM (which alot of tuners do) the misfire detection is still enabled.
