Questions about handheld tuners
i am considering buying a tuner. I have a 2000 trans am. i put race headers on so my egr/air systems are now not functional. My car is running horrible. It sounds like it is going to die at low RPM's and at WOT runs just fine. it is getting 8 miles to the gallon and just plain sucks. Can the Vinci, predator, or hp handheld fix this? Please let me know feedback b/c i dont want to spend alot of money to acheive nothing.

A full tuning suite will enable you to tune the vehicle to your liking. Check out www.efilive.com and www.greenlightmotorsports.com

That's kind of a broad question.
There is no comparison between full tuning suites, and hand-helds.
If you're wanting to have full control of your engine, and you want an easy-to-learn, state of the art solution, www.efilive.com.

Everyone who purchases race headers gets thier car tuned immediately. You need software to eliminate the codes caused by removing the air funtion, o2 removal, and to make the car run. You can either havae it tuned, or purchase/learn efilive or hptuners.
Good luck.

Tuning software, hardware, and services are no different than anything else automotive - you get what you pay for.
You can spend a few hundred bucks on a handheld and be severly limited to what the manufacturer allows you to do.
Or you could spend a bit more on a "pro" dyno tune, which most of us here have done and can testify to the hole left in our pockets.
Or you could spend about the same money for a tuning suite that allows you to make any tuning adjustment you need, when ever you need it, and you have the option of helping your buddies out to recoupe some or all of your investment.
No matter what, you will need to research your options and decide where you money is best spent.
If you're wanting a recommendation, I'd recomend you check out EFILive. No tuning solution on the market today (or the foreseable future) offers more bang for the buck.
There are a lot of reasons your engine could be acting up. Would really help if you had a scan tool, or access to one, to see what the PCM is fussing about. When I put my headers on, I !AIR, !EGR, & !CATs at the same time and waited several weeks before getting the SES tuned out. I had the SES, but don't recall anything similar to limp mode. Could very well be a coil pack is loose, O2 sensor wiring rubing the header, or ???

i appreciate all of your all's help. I think i will probably purchase the EFI Live. It seems the majority of people i have talked to like it best. I will check my coil packs and o2 wires and see whats up there. Once again thanks for the comments and advice. Ill let you all know how all turns out. Thanks.

I put SLP headers on my other SS and it ran fine without a tune. Not perfect, but fine. Tuning helped lean it up a little. I agree with others, check to make sure you didn't unplug something else??
Now if I could just find out what's wrong with my current car Runs great 90% of the time and then decides to idle at 3000rpm. I am now an expert at swapping PCMS
