v6 mod questions
i'm looking at getting a 2000 v6 bird and would like to know what are some good mods to do to it?
i'm already planning on getting a ws6 style hood (they're just bad ***) but what else? i don't want to do something on a 6 that i would normally do on an 8 and have it be pointless, you know.
so on a v6: exhast? headers? etc....
also, i've been reading alot about ssra, ftra, and jaam ram air setups? can someone explain these a little bit better for a newbie? could any of these be used on a v6 car? i'm looking at getting the air induction off an 01 ws6 to go with the hood. oh yeah...and what's the deal with the "lids"? is there a lid upgrade?
i'm not that great with tools, so simple mods are good. i can use and own basic tools, buti don't want to get to extreme and start hacking into stuff and have it look and turn out all crappy.

IMO, man it's just not worth it. I had one and did full bolt ons, spent god knows how much money on it and only managed a 15.3 out of it. Then regretted not buying a v8 to start with.
the usual reasons, better fuel economy, lower insurance rates, etc...
plus, i was able to find a real nice one that was only slightly out of my cheap price range!
back to the topic at hand:
i was reading about the FTRA system, and it seems to install easily and i've read good things about it here.
i would like to have a somewhat functioning ram air hood, so i don't want to completly seal that part off. i guess i need a clarification of what gets sealed and what doesn't.
i'm not a racer or looking for huge power, if i was, i would get a v8, but i would still like a nice, better than average/stock, car.

ive had a 6 and my v8 gets more mileage and there was no difference in insurance
my trans am gets better mileage than my subaru. almost cheaper to insure as well. especially if your thinking about modding the 6, just get the V8, much easier platform to get power out of only 20 bucks more for insurance, gas mileage about the same (look in sig)
10000000000XS MORE FUN! I had a v6, seriously you do NOT want to get one if you can have the real thing. some ls1s can even go down low in price now a days. lT1 costs the same as my old v6.

they arent BAD, but if you want gas mileage get a DD. if you are wanting to stay cheaper, buy a V8 and keep it stock. youll spend extra money getting the v6 faster and make up some of that price difference and still have a slower car. i get confused with people that mess with 6 cylinders
but if you wanted to be stubborn, get an air filter and catback system AT MOST. i could never see putting more than that in a V6 fbody
insurance will be the same dude. when i was looking i asked my insurance company about the difference and it was about 3 bucks a month.
gas mileage is good on a 6speed car, most get about 28 hwy. my stock 2.73 auto car got 27 hwy at 65, i miss those gears lol. for the most part, the v6 wont get better mileage, because both engines have to move the same amount of mass.
my suggestion: if you arent interested in going fast, only open the hood for regular maintenance. anything else is a waste of money. just buy the car you want and enjoy it dude. put a nice set of wheels on it, system, and keep it clean.

omg. if you're gonna buy a v6 and modding it just get the 8.
if ur like most ppl, ur gonna regret the 6. most of the mods you're talkin about wont fit onto the v6 anyway. i dont thonk the lid will be compatible.
milage is better in the 8 and insurace is about the same....

Dont do it dude! i spent thousands on my v6 camaro. (my 1st car). It had headers cam all sorts of stuff. talk about a waste of money. for wat i had in it i could of had a ls1. They get bout the same gas mileage if you drive conservatively.
