Well I was looking at my hood today and right on the back where it meets the windshield cowl there is a good 2-2 1/2 inch space of fiberglass the encloses the engine compartment. I was wondering if any has altered their stock WS6 hoods and turned them into a functioning cowl hood....looking for input on the idea...let me know what you all think.....I'll probably start modification to my hood sometime next week. Hopefully some one has done it already to point me in the right direction.....

I wouldnt do it, it really wouldnt be functional if you cut it because the air lid is at the front of the engine, unlike with older cars that had functional cowls had huge air cleans that had duct work going to the cowl. Id say dont hack it.

The only things you will gain from cutting slots at the rear of the hood.
1) Destroying the value of a factory hood which BTW is $1,500 new.
2) Lower under hood temps from your new heat extractors

I have an aftermarket WS6 hood on mine and they cut two rectangular holes in ther about 2x4 and call them heat extractors and they seem to work cause when its cool out side it blows hot air on the windshield when im stopped and fogs it up. It seems to me like it works and my coolent temp went down about 20 deg from the stock TA hood.

If I told you that I picked mine up for $250 at a local swap meet back in `99 would it make you cry ?
But part of that floaty feeling is the Decrapon shocks that these cars come with.

I've thought about cutting holes in hood also but have been waiting to find some kind of plastic snap in trim piece from another car.But haven't found anything yet if I had replacement hood (not factory) I would cut the holes leaving them rounded on ends and use black edging to finish off.Until then I might lose the weaterstriping to check out the difference. GOOD LUCK ! Also thought it would be sweet to mount the 1 1/2" nitrous and fuel pressure gauges(blue&red ones) in the same spot.

The weather stripping doesn't make any noticeable (on the dash anyways) differences. The benefits of having a slightly less turbulent engine bay is nice, so is the warm windshield on a cold day.
