My SOM Formula Firehawk story...lots of pics
I just bought a 2001 Formula Firehawk, 6 speed, T-tops, black cloth with 27k miles. For pics of the Hawk, skip to the bottom of this post:
Well, it has been a long, strange road to get to this point. I used to own a 2002 Trans Am WS6. It was a great car, and I loved it. It was a full exhaust, heads/cam car until a piston exploded inside the motor:
The car:
I decided to go bigger and better and the LS1 was replaced with a 402 cubic inch LS2:
Well, I also had a Civic Si as a daily driver and ended up never driving the Trans Am. I only drove it on very nice days that had no possiblity of rain, etc. I was so **** about the Trans Am that I couldn't enjoy it. So, I ended up selling the Civic and the Trans Am and bought a Pontiac G8:
Well, the G8 was a great car, but I really missed F-Bodies and really missed driving a stick. The G8 went up for sale. I found the Firehawk on autotrader.com in Kentucky. I called the owner and asked if he would be interested in a trade since he had listed he was interested in a more family oriented car. Well, we talked for about a week and a half and came to a trade agreement. The Firehawk has been owned since new by a great guy named Darrell. It was great meeting him and we since have become friends.
Darrell and I completing the trade:
My reaction to the Hawk on the way home:
The Hawk made it safely home:
Today was the full detail. After a good bath, I used Meguiar's Swirl X followed by Meguiar's Tech Wax 2.0. I am very happy with the results.
Hard at work:
The wife keeping me company for a bit:

Reminds me of my reaction!!!
SOM hawk, can't beat that. Excellent choice!!
And it being a formula only adds to it's rarity!!

Very, very nice and impressive attention to detail.
What springs are you running in the front....was it stock when you got it or have you slowly been building it up?
Also curious if you ever ran the build numbers, I know its gotta be pretty low for the Formula Firehawk especially in SOM, I've only seen a couple here and there.

There seem to only have been 4 SOM Formula Hawks for 2001 and 20 for 2002.
