replaced water pump, did the solder fix on the BCM, installed some LED interior lighting (will add info on this when NOT using my phones in 4G data) and changed the oil, overall a pretty good weekend.

Replaced the front O2 sensors and the battery hold down / overflow bottle. Cleaned around the battery and overflow tank exceptionally well. Then drove it 80 miles to prep for inspection in the morning.

Got the bolts back in through the clamshell bracket (what a PITA), relocation bracket not needed. Waiting for new bushing to be delivered so I can put it all back together.

Called a couple places about getting my factory tint removed since it was a deep purple and peeling pretty bad. $150?! Hell no, I'll do it myself.

Got some Purple Power, De-greaser, Rubbing Alchohol and a Glass Scraper and went to work. Its not perfect, but I did get 99% of the reside off. No more crappy tint.

Got one more thing off the garage floor, the spare tire. When we got the bird I noticed it was missing the brackets to secure the spare and the jack in place. Today, I stopped by the local Chevy dealer and as I thought the parts are discontinued, so I went to ace hardware picked up some M8x1.25 threaded rod and a few other parts and made them myself.

Not "factory" at best dealer installed, FACTORY TINT is installed in the glass as part of the film layer that keeps the shards of glass from a smashed window in place. It is not on the surface of the glass.

Not saying you're " wrong " but the AAA RPO code says otherwise according to them.

http://www.marshu.com/ws6-firebird-c...codes-2000.php

That site lists AAA as 4 way manual seat adjuster, which I do not have.

I'm just taking a shot in the dark here but my best guess is that the car was coded to have window tint and GM just assigned their dealerships to do the regular stuff. I'd still call that a factory option.

Either way, the tint was clearly old as hell and in bad shape.

I can't explain that, I just can tell you ALL factory tint on ANY make or model is in the glass, it's a standard practice, so the tint must have been done sometime after. my 96 Tahoe had it, my dads old 97 Suburban had it, so they where using this process before your car was built so it would be this way, also another standard is to NOT put tint on the front doors (due to varying state laws on tint), which would mean at most only the rear hatch and the top of the windshield could get it.

This was last weekend, but I finally fixed the high idle that I've dealt with since owning the car and eliminated my PCV.

I finally got my PCV parts and got back up home to install them and see if that made any difference. Simple swap, only took about 5 mins to eliminate the outside PCV system, plug off the valve covers and install the loop to the valley cover. Also did a quick look at all the vacuum lines that I could see.

After install I took a test drive to see if it made any changes to the high idle. It sure did, it got way worse. So for whatever reason, I decided to cap off the TB and valley cover and try again, that seemed to help put the car back to the way it was before the install. So that doesn't fix my issues, but at least it also seems the PCV wasn't my problem.

Next, I pulled the lid off to see how the throttle body looked and clean it out. Ding Ding, a light bulb went off for an idea that I had before, but for whatever reason never tried it. After cleaning everything since I was in there, I put the lid back on and fired up the car. It always idles normal at initial start up, but after a crack of the throttle, back up to 1500+ she is. Next, I unplugged the TPS and wala, within a few seconds she's is idling normal. Plug it back in and back up it goes to 1600. Picked up a new TPS for $22 and had it installed in a few minutes.

Took the car out for a drive and she is perfect, idle drops right back down and car engine brakes now like it's supposed to. I just love the engine brake between shifts when driving normal, it's my favorite sound and even better now that it's the first time I've heard the car do it.

AAA was most definitely not factory tint. On compnine (the main source for codes) it's listed as unknown, but out of 17,465 Firebird Coupes offered in 2001 (V6 and V8), 17, 211 came with the option (including mine) and my windows were most definitely not tinted. It was an option listed on my 1993 Z28, 1997 Trans Am, 1997 Camaro, and 1999 Z28 as well and none of those had factory tint.

X100. I've had vehicles with factory tint and it's in the glass, there is no way to remove it save replacing it with glass that is not tinted.

93-94 had the dot matrix style, but 95-02 came tinted from the factory.

Now that you mention it, I do remember my 93 Z28 having the dots on the T-Tops.
