Default Firebird production in Canada

How many 98-02 firebirds where built in Canada compared to the United States? Are the Canadian cars rare?

Thanks

All 4th generation Camaros and Firebirds were assembled in Canada at the GM St Therese plant near Montreal, Quebec. Production started in 1993. In '98, GM revised the body panels and headlights on the Camaros and Firebirds. The V8 changed from the iron block LT1 to the aluminum block LS1 in 98 as well. Production of all F-bodies ended in 2002.

VIN #'s that start with "2" are built here in Canada.

All 2010 Camaros are also Canadian made.

Actually your question should be reversed. Now that would be rare.

Are you possibly looking for the number of cars that came equipped w/ RPO Z49 - Mandatory Base Canadian Equipment (which I believe included DRLs before GM made them standard in the US, engine block heaters, auto headlamps)?

no. 3rd gens were built at norwalk? and van nuys. IIRC there is a 92 Z28 with a ton of signatures floating around with very low miles that was not only the last 3rd gen fbody made but also the last car made at the van nuys plant.

Yes indeedy, all 4th gen = foreign Canada made. I believe all 3rd gens are American made, lots of parts are Canadian though. Both of my 3rd gens are Van Nuys cars.

The 3rd Gen cars were produced in two factories, Van Nuys CA, and Norwood OH. The 11th digit of the VIN will indicate an N for Norwood, or an L for Van Nuys. The two plants operated simultaneously until model year 1987, when Norwood closed, and Van Nuys was the sole producer of F-bodies until the end of the 3rd Generation, in 1992.

Additionally, that particular GM ***'y plant had (up in a second floor storage area) a single example of every type of vehicle ever build there. Too cool!

I worked for GM Powertrain back in the 90's and saw them - all with less than 10 miles on them - and all NOT FOR SALE!

According to my St. Therese de facto 'tour guide', the cars I saw with my own two eyes didn't even exist.

From 1996-2006 I worked at Gen Auto Shippers, which is the shipping yard for GM Oshawa where the current Camaros are built...anyway, I can't tell you how many SS Camaros, Firehawks or WS6 Trans Ams I drove...I loved those cars...I can say that a few of them got their tires smoked!

Great, ..., now everyone knows that possibly some idiot drove the hell out their car when it was like brand new off the assembly line.

Stupid comment.

Yes, there was a huge difference... Trans Ams built in the US were all pre-93 models while those built in Canada were 93-02 models.
