What do you mean by best? Ignition changed the second year, this seems to be the biggest deal, performance wise. Then the casting process for the heads changed, although the heads themselves didn't change too much..Casting number for the old heads was 853 the new ones were 241, there may be a very minimal performance gain ( 5hp? ). Then for the final two years there was a new intake manifold, the LS1 intake was replaced by the LS6, and even though the LS6 intake was a better performance piece significant performance increase was negated by a smaller cam.
Besides that, there was a wheel change at the end of the run... and some small cosmetic changes to the interior if I remember correctly.

Really, the difference is so minimal I don't think there's a best year...

I agree but I would never turn down a clean, well maintained example of any of the years.

Agreed, if by best you mean most updated, then go with the last two years of production as they had the new heads, new ignition, new intake, as well as small interior updates. If I remember correctly, the last two years were also the most produced so should be easiest to find and most likely to have the lowest miles.

What were the changes with the EGR and AIR? I have a 2000 WS6 and had EGR and AIR. The AIR drew fresh air from the filter lid. By 2008 the EGR and AIR has disappeared...from my car anyway.

They removed the EGR on the 01-02 cars, the AIR remained

Well you pretty much answered my question by describing the few differences each year, Thanks IRONFIST!

Read the stickies in the Newbie section. They give the same year-to-year breakdown.
