Runs like crap after rain
I was out yesterday and it started to pour down raining. Got back home and now my car runs like complete crap. It revs up but doesn't go anywhere unless you punch it. I've heard of this problem before. How do I fix it?

Happened to my 95 and the opti had gotten wet but I did drive through a little bit of standing water.
I have also heard to check the harness going to the opti- can cause the same problem if it gets wet.

id say o2 sensors thats what mine did. after doin headers on my car we extened the o2 sensors our selves and it rained real real bad one night and under partial load tryn to cruise it would miss its *** off and sputter and do dumb **** like that but when you went wide open it ran like a badass.
the computer tries to read from the o2 sensors under moderate load while your cruisin around for gas mileage purposes but ignores them and goes to pre programmed parameters in the computer when you go WOT so if you have a butthole connection or something in your o2s they could be the culprit.
but im just speaking from my experience it may very well be your optispark if its an lt car i know my brother had 2 lt cars and he had hell with them on both his cars.

I tried to let it dry out because I was out over the weekend and now it starts up runs for less than 2 seconds and dies. This car is driving me nuts! I know the o2 sensors are pretty easy, how hard is the opti and how much is it?

the job itself is a beast! you gotta remove the crank pulley, water pump and in some cases the radiator. the part is anywhere from $150 to $300. to have a shop do it is around $1000. can ya tell i've been there, done that?

Yea- it is not that hard just take your time and allow an afternoon for it. Would help if you could get someone that has done it to stop by and answer questions.
I suggest the MSD opti- seems to be much higher quality than most aftermarket units you will get at the parts house. Also, it adds a vent tube.

I think they initially had problems with the rotor screws backing out which would cause problems. I haven't had that happen on mine.
My 95 has a stock replacement opti with an MSD box and doesn't have any issues.
