Default Twitchy Oil Gauge

When im stopped at a light or slow down considerably the oil gauge pointer flickers from 20-30, but then when i step on the gas the pointer holds steady at 40.

anybody have an idea whats causing this?

mine is "twitchy" too, it seems to give the correct read out while I'm on the throttle and goes back to shaking at idle

This. Glad I'm not the only one, now I feel less paranoid.

It's normal for oil pressure to drop around 20-30 (depending on temperature) when stopping or slowing down and then increase under steady throttle. Steady throttle for me reads 45, WOT reads 60-70, and at idle (once warmed up) it reads 30-35.

I believe these guys are getting the whole "sweeping" motion at idle or stopping. The gauge twitches back and forth from a little below 20, to above 60. Mine does it too. But once hard on the throttle it shows correct pressure. Mine worked well when i first bought the car and has just recently started doing this.

stated above. the sending unit for the gauge can go bad over time, causing the fluctuating readout.

is this fixable without having to drain the oil from the car?
