does tcs mean car has posi
98-02 firebird, i'm guessing more around a 2000-2002. its a v6, automatic. no more info other than it has a blown headgasket, he has engine outside of car, and a near perfect interior, which is why im buying the car. does tcs mean the car has a posi rear, or did v6's even have posi. i have a 3.73 posi my friend is going to sell me, but if i am already buying one, i'll just use it

you can just get both rear wheels off the ground and sipn one of them if the other one follows then it has posi, if the other wheel goes in the opposite dirrection then if it ever did have it the posi don't work anymore

not true, a zexel torsen will behave like an open diff under this type of test

ALL Firebirds got the Torsen gear drive in 99 up, so you do have it but its not "POSI"<that is a old term tossed around when differentials had a set of limited slip clutches in them.
YOU DON"T HAVE A "posi" you have a torsen gear driven differential that will distribute the load evenly to both drive wheels.
You can buy a Torsen gear driven "POSI" with clutches in it but the factory never used them.
I hope I didn't confuse you. By the way traction control MUST HAVE a locking rear to work properly.
Another easy test is just find a stone parking lot and mash on the throttle.....it should spin both tires evenly with the traction control off.
IT WILL. If you look on the drivers door option codes you will see G80<means you got the limited slip torsen gear drive if its 99 up.

This is false. 2008 challenger SRT8's have an open diff. Their TCS works 1000x's better than ours. You can still lay 2 marks because of the TCS evenly distributing power.

"Posi-traction" was a GM brand name for some limited slip differentials, as I recall and is not a good term to describe what should be called limited slip.

RPO G80 is the posi (limited slip) differential on all F-bodies. Yes, this was available on V6s, but unlike the V8 cars, not all V6s came w/ G80. Look for the G80 RPO code on the door sticker.
RPO NW9 is the TCS (traction control system), also an option on '99+ V6 cars. G80 was not required to get NW9, because in some years more V6 cars got NW9 than G80.

Correction, all V8 Firebirds got this, it was an option on V6s.
