1998 Engine swap. 3.8 to 5.7?
My oil pump for my V6 recently went out and the engine is seized up. I would like to d oa V8 swap, and I fould a good 350, 5.7 Vortec engine. My car is a 3.8 V6 with a 5 speed manual, 1998. Would I be able to put this new engine in without having to get a whole new radiator, tranny, etc.? I am on a very tight budget, but if I am able to swap the engines without having to get a new transmission that would be wonderful. One other option would be a 5.7 LT1 engine from a '95 Camaro Z28. That car has an automatic tranny, but would I be able to keep my tranny and put that engine in, or would that not work as well? If neither of those will work, then I will just have to stick with the 3.8. I found 2, one from a 1996 Camaro, and one from a 2000 Firebird. Any help would be fantastic!!! I have less than 3 weeks to complete this. I'm on a very tight schedule.

Then do yourself a favor and put a used 3.8 longblock back in it.
This is your best, cheapest, most common sense option. Go get one of those motors and swap it out for yours and be done with it.

the LT1 is a no go because it's OBD 1 and your car is OBD 2, a 5.7 or any other v8 (like the lm7 for example as its the cheapest option) is gonna run you close to 3 grand by the time you get everything you need to do the swap including but not limited to v8 fuel pump, v8 k-member and mounts and a very long list of other parts, where a used 3.8 can be picked up around 600 bucks and while you have it out go ahead and do new gaskets all around (valve cover, oil pan, rear main, you know all the pain the *** ones) and you could be done for like a grand.

From what I can read of your knowledge regarding this type of swap, I would suggest not trying to attempt it. Being a daily driver, the 3 week time frame is unrealistic unless you can devote all your time to it. Parts gathering for the V6 to V8 conversion could take weeks to get everything you need.
