Default WTF is this? *PIC*

Bought the car with 16K miles and always wondered what and why this fine cut is doing here?

Do you mean the gap in the weatherstrip under the door panel? Probably for water drainage that enters the door via the window glass.

Yes, the gap that's there, in the door. Weird because on the drivers side it isn't there.

That's not normal. You should take off the door panel and see what is going on.

It is just a clean cut, right in the door. Doesn't look like a crack of any sort. It is as if someone purposely made it there.

I thought it was a seam that pulled apart but now that you mention it, it does look like it was sliced.

You'll have to ask the original owner if you still have his contact info. This 'cut' sure isn't on my T/A.

Any marks on the door sill? As if something got shut in the door?

The composite skin is pretty brittle and it can tear like that.

I was thinking the same thing. It almost looks like a screwdriver was put in one of the door panel fastener holes and the window lowered.

Got to take the panel off to know...

There's also a mark in the door panel just above it. I'll bet this got caught in it once upon a time when the door was shut:

Need a genuine answer..... Car has 25K miles, I treat it like gold. Would you bother fixing it?

I doubt anybody can tell you what damaged that part of your door-we weren't there when it happened. We can only offer a best guess what caused it.

If you enter the car in shows and judges crawl all over the car, you should get it fixed. Panel off, stripping, bondo, smoothing, painting......

Not a show car entrant? Let it be, chances are nobody but you would ever notice it.

If it were my car, maybe I'd dab a little paint in it to make it disappear. Maybe.

It took you this long to find and notice it. It does not appear to be something that would cause long term problems. So really it boils down to one thing - Can you go on enjoying the car knowing that it's there? Or every time you get in to ride is that little voice in the back of your head going to nag at you.

That's my thinking too. If it bothers you, fix it. It can't be that expensive, and no one will ever see it afterwards. I treat my car like 'gold' too. It would get fixed this week or next, whenever the next appt is available.

If I recall correctly, the panel is SMC. There are SMC repair products out there, but your path of least resistance may be to take it to a body shop and have it done. The materials are a little toxic. (If you breathe the chemicals involved the wrong way, you can grow a third nut, or something like that.)

Did you check the hole against the seat belt buckle? Does the slipper fit?
