Audio Options
Anyone have any info on the audio options for the 4th gens?
My question springs from looking on Crutchfield for radios and speakers, and it asked what speaker option it has (it asks if it has four or ten speakers). I've done a little research and know there was obviously cassette, cd and even a trunk mounted changer. I've also seen different door panels as far as the speakers are concerned. One of them has the two speakers, a smaller and large speaker, and the other is a flatter one which looks like it only has one speaker. I'm not really concerned with possible differences in the first and second half of the 4th gen options. I mainly just like to know which trim/options had the best setup and what it is. Pictures would be greatly appreciated.
Anyway, thanks for any help
on Firebirds and Trans Am's from the 4th gen you had 2 different door panels, the "flat" (at the speaker) was the 4 speaker system and the "one with 2" is a component speaker, the "smaller" one is a tweeter which is part of whats called a "component set", if the car came with those door panels then it would also have speakers located in the very back of the car in the panel you have to remove to get to the spare tire, that is the "10 speaker" option as far as crutchfield is concerned.
the 4 speaker was typically seen only on the v6 cars, but some v6 cars got the 10 speaker option.
For the record, the attached image isn't my door panel, but its identical, as far as the speakers are concerned, to whats in my V6 car. So does this mean my car is actually a V6 with the upgraded audio option?
Also, if my car doesn't already have the ten speaker system, I'd basically just take the entire system out of a V8 car? A daunting task, I know. And if I did take the system, what all am I going to need from it? Like, where are the speakers at? I've got two in each door, one on either side in the back and one on either side in the trunk, which is only eight, so which ones am I missing?
Kind of getting the impression that the four speaker option was actually pretty rare, since most birds I see have the component door panels. I'm still at a loss as to where the other two speakers are at. Only other place I can think of would be dash speakers, and correct me if I'm wrong but, I don't see any in the dash.

I would go out and take pictures, but its single digits in Indy right now and my car is buried in the snow with two spare tires sitting in the back seat. I'll probably get some pics tomorrow to post up. What all should I snap pictures of in order to clarify for certain what it has?
Also, I don't know if it matters, but my bird has a cassette player in it.
I don't have any experience with the 93-96 'Bird systems, but the manual shows all the speakers being run off the H/U except for the sail panel subs, which have their own amp.Try getting in touch with Kee Audio or do some searching over on LTXtech.com. There's a lot of 93-97 F-body knowledge over there.
