Question Audio Options

First and foremost, I've already posted this question in the sticky with no response. I figured I'd make a dedicated post in the hopes of actually getting an answer.

Anyone have any info on the audio options for the 4th gens?
My question springs from looking on Crutchfield for radios and speakers, and it asked what speaker option it has (it asks if it has four or ten speakers). I've done a little research and know there was obviously cassette, cd and even a trunk mounted changer. I've also seen different door panels as far as the speakers are concerned. One of them has the two speakers, a smaller and large speaker, and the other is a flatter one which looks like it only has one speaker. I'm not really concerned with possible differences in the first and second half of the 4th gen options. I mainly just like to know which trim/options had the best setup and what it is. Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, thanks for any help

OH, wow you really are new to audio, let me see if I can simplify this as much as possible.

on Firebirds and Trans Am's from the 4th gen you had 2 different door panels, the "flat" (at the speaker) was the 4 speaker system and the "one with 2" is a component speaker, the "smaller" one is a tweeter which is part of whats called a "component set", if the car came with those door panels then it would also have speakers located in the very back of the car in the panel you have to remove to get to the spare tire, that is the "10 speaker" option as far as crutchfield is concerned.

the 4 speaker was typically seen only on the v6 cars, but some v6 cars got the 10 speaker option.

Yea, audio defiantly isn't my specialty.

For the record, the attached image isn't my door panel, but its identical, as far as the speakers are concerned, to whats in my V6 car. So does this mean my car is actually a V6 with the upgraded audio option?

Also, if my car doesn't already have the ten speaker system, I'd basically just take the entire system out of a V8 car? A daunting task, I know. And if I did take the system, what all am I going to need from it? Like, where are the speakers at? I've got two in each door, one on either side in the back and one on either side in the trunk, which is only eight, so which ones am I missing?

Update, I'm pretty sure I got lucky and have the ten speaker system. I just went and checked, and my car has the speakers in the hatch in the side panels.

Kind of getting the impression that the four speaker option was actually pretty rare, since most birds I see have the component door panels. I'm still at a loss as to where the other two speakers are at. Only other place I can think of would be dash speakers, and correct me if I'm wrong but, I don't see any in the dash.

Four up front (two in each door) + four in the hatch area (two on each side) + two in the rear seat area (one on each side) = 10 speakers.

actually the 4 speaker option was the most common option for the v6 cars, typically you only see the 10 speaker option on a v6 that also has the factory "appearance package" (factory body kit) which was not very common, and ALL manual window cars got the 4 speaker option because that other door panel won't work with the window crank.

If it's for the 95 in your sig, then you'll never find those 2 other speakers. Monsoon started in 97. You've probably got the 8 speaker system that only came in the 93-96 Pontiacs. Look for RPO code W54, W55, or W56.

Yea, its for the one in my sig. I can say for certain that my car doesn't have the appearance package on it. It definitely has the component speaker door panels, speakers in the rear seats, and speakers in the hatch area on the sides. So does that mean that Crutchfield is missing the audio option that my car has? And what is different in the monsoon system? Is that the top of the line factory option for the fourth gen cars? What would I need to snag from one to upgrade whatever my car has to the monsoon system?
I would go out and take pictures, but its single digits in Indy right now and my car is buried in the snow with two spare tires sitting in the back seat. I'll probably get some pics tomorrow to post up. What all should I snap pictures of in order to clarify for certain what it has?
Also, I don't know if it matters, but my bird has a cassette player in it.

I personally wouldn't call Monsoon "top of the line". I don't have any experience with the 93-96 'Bird systems, but the manual shows all the speakers being run off the H/U except for the sail panel subs, which have their own amp.

Try getting in touch with Kee Audio or do some searching over on LTXtech.com. There's a lot of 93-97 F-body knowledge over there.

Well maybe top of the line isn't the best way to put it. I don't know much about audio so I mainly wanted the best starting point. The one with the most speakers and maybe a factory amp. I'm going to replace the radio (is that the same as the head unit?) since it's only a cassette player, and I want Serious in my car. I also wasn't aware that the rear seat speakers were actually small factory subs. Is there any difference in the monsoon system and the 8 speaker system besides the fact the the hatch speakers have two extra speakers in them? I went to the audio section and read up on the monsoon system, now I just don't know whats the difference between that and what I have.

Any of the Trans am radio, or the upgraded monsoon with the CD deck, and the 12 disk changer are the best "factory" setup. Yes they have a lot of distortion and are probably half blown by now, but if you have one with all working speakers they sound decent for their age. You could go all aftermarket but it's a lot of work to remove all the amps, and stuff. Plus the aftermarket decks never fit very good in the dash hole.
