Didn't see one Firebird on a 2,750 miles trip
I guess this makes it official. Our cars are just not seen that much anymore. We just completed a two week vacation up to Cape Cod, MA and back to NC in our '01 T/A and we did not see one other Firebird anywhere. Not in parking lots, the interstates, back roads, just nowhere. We sure looked too. Always on the lookout. Not too many comments on ours in the northeast. We usually get many here in the south. One older nice lady on Martha's Vineyard asked if we rented it for our trip. I'm glad she thought it looked new & nice but I don't think the rental companies have many Pontiacs left in their inventory I posted some photos of the car and trip in the 'vert section if you want to take a look. https://ls1tech.com/forums/convertib...l#post19973741

Sad fact, they are few and far between thse days especially nice examples.
In my area cash for clunkers wiped out a majority of them at the time. There is a small handful of them in my area still but most aren't in great or even good shape.

I still see 4th gens, nearly daily, but usually more Camaros than Firebirds. Once in awhile I'll see a 3rd gen. When I do see a 1st or 2nd gen, its usually a big enough deal I have to run them down just to say "Hi! Sweet car!!" (even though they may be a little beat up). At one time, there were 3 4th gens parked at work (an SS and two WS6s, one being mine). The guy w/ the SS no longer works here, and the guy w/ the WS6 still drives his on occasion (as do I). But there are quite a few Challengers and Mustangs and Vettes on the lot these days. Most notably, a GT350, C7 and a C6 Z06 (we used to have 2, but the one guy retired ~6 mos ago). Just last week I spotted a yellow '67 GTO on my way home from work, and I've seen a black '70 GTO 'vert multiple times over the last few years (only in the summer).

@NC01TA ,
I'm just glad that you were on a trip this whole time rather than impacted by all the flooding. I don't know how far west the water reached, and I hadn't seen you post in a while so I was getting worried. I'm happy to see that you're safe, and hope that your home is in proper order.
As for the topic at hand, I almost never see other 4th gens in my area unless I'm at a car show, and even then it's not all that common to see one. I guess I might see Camaros slightly more often than Firebirds/TAs, but generally they are both extinct in terms of daily driving in this area. Even seeing a V6 car is a big deal/rare sight around here. Cars don't last long in the Chicago environment, so it would have to be a model where a TON of them were built to still regularly see them at 16+ years old (such as various trucks or SUVs), or cars which originally appealed to retired folks who barely used them for the first decade or so.

Funny you say that. In our small town of 11k, we have at least 4-5 firebirds. One town over has a few camaros, all 4th gens. Even when I commuted 150 miles per day I rarely saw anything. Most times I see them they are parked in driveways.

Thanks for all the responses. I just finished detailing the T/A to make it all nice again, mostly getting any sea salt off the car. Spending the nights outside was rough to see as the car was soaking wet each morning from the humid ocean air.
RPM WS6, thanks for the concern but we are so far west in NC that my neighbor said we barely received any rain at all. We are just 1 hour from the Great Smoky Mountains (Tennessee) and just 30 minutes from the north Georgia line. In fact just 30 minutes from where Deliverance was filmed. I thought that might be a proper reference since we just lost Burt Reynolds and his ties with Trans Ams. RIP.

Yeah, that's the hard part for us!! I want to live by the ocean, but the ocean water will kill us. It's a constant wash and wax all day long. LOL Hence why I look at houses on the beach ONLY with a garage....otherwise I have to keep my inland house just for storing the TA. LOL

The 4th Generation WS6's are getting rarer to see driving on weekends. I see many 5th Generation Camaros and Corvettes and the new Mustangs and Challengers but the C4 Corvettes and WS6's are getting harder to spot although I think they are the best cars to buy and enjoy. They are not difficult to work on, not terribly complicated and are easy to drive with no distractions.
