Default Route 66 photos in our Trans Am - Pt 1

We just completed a 5,655 miles trip in our Trans Am in late April and early May. Our 20 year old car, with now 77,000 miles on it, performed perfectly with no issues. Only a flat tire (screw/ bolt) slowed our progress and just for 2 hours (AAA tow and patch). We burned 3 quarts of oil over these 5,600+ miles which wasn't bad in my book (Mobil 1 10w-30 extended performance). We averaged just under 25 mpg which also seemed incredible for an A4.
Most of the trip was centered around the old Route 66 and the aged gas stations that have been restored or abandoned over the many years. You try to imagine the attendants rushing out to service your car back in the 40's and 50's. We stayed one night at the famous Blue Swallow in Tucumcari, NM. Each photo will have a little descrition under it so you can see where the photo was taken. I will make this into two parts since there are so many photos. Part 2 will be posted soon after this one.

Just outside Tulsa OK

World's tallest gas pump Sapulpa OK

Thanks for posting! Please throw up some more pics. I did this 2 years ago, and will be doing it again in two weeks. 6000+ miles or so. I love a road trip!

Tempting but no way would I try that 72 oz monster. I couldn't even finish my 20 oz so I put it in my cooler for the next night's dinner.

Road trips are indeed a highlight. Have a great time! What kind of car are you taking??
I posted more photos already in the 'part 2' section. Also some AZ and NM side trips posted in the 'convertibles' section.

Just checked out both threads, thanks so much for sharing these pictures of such a wonderful trip! I went through them all with Mrs. RPM and we agreed that we'll eventually have to do a trip like this ourselves. What a great way to see the country; between all the historic sites and the open desert roads it really seems like an excellent road trip vacation.

I rent a full-size SUV for myself, the wife, and my 17 yr old son. Would love to do this in one of my toys, but I can’t come to terms with it just yet. Maybe one day. Checked out the other thread and your photos are great. I took 1600+ pics last trip and will take more this go-around. Again, thanks for the posts. Hopefully this will inspire more folks to do this type of thing.

Came across a few more. A different angle at the restored DX in Henryetta OK plus some real old DX gas pumps at a museum near Chandler OK.
Obviously I'm into old gas station petroliana. I have some DX oilers and cans in my 'man cave' collection that came from stations like these back in the day.
