Default Not many Firebirds at Maggie Valley NC show today

Saturday is the main show day with awards but it is a 3 day event and not many Firebirds were there today. Many Camaros were there and I posted them separately in the Camaro section. I won't be going tomorrow so I have no idea how many more Firebirds will appear. Usually there are a lot more.

Yours truly outside the gate.

It's quality over quantity, right? It's about 94 degrees outside in Ohio today, which is a little warm for a car show. Hopefully it's better down there.

Only a few ever seem to turn out in SE PA for any of the shows or cars and coffees I go to, and very few of those are 4th gens.

Yes indeed, same colors as my old one. My favorite behind the '70-'73s (like my taste in 2nd gen Camaros too).

It was approaching 90 here as well which is not 'normal'. I left at lunch yesterday, and today is supposed to be even warmer. At least the grass helps instead of pavement.

I regularly go to a cruise where there are only a couple 4th gen TA's that show up. At our huge local cruise with 2000+ cars, I counted 6 4th gen TA's last year.

six would be a headline turn out here. Not sure what it is, people often talk about how much they like the ws6’s, but the turn out is beyond poor for 4th gen’s in general.

Could be the mix of generations, the boomers prefer older Detroit iron, and the millennials grew up on JDM stuff so they prefer that. The people who do own 4th gen’s don’t think they’re worth showing off?

it's weird. I'm not sure if WS6 owners have them stashed in their garage under 20 blankets but you can find more Cudas at a cruise than 4th gen WS6 cars.

Sadly, the last C&C I was at about a month ago there were more Audi R8s than 4th gen f-bodies. I don't have much of a leg to stand on though as I had my Cutlass instead of the T/A.

Interesting that so few are taken to shows. I like taking mine but I do rotate taking my 3 rides. I would have entered this one but the $40 for one day kinda irked me, plus it was too darn hot to hang around until 5 o'clock for the awards.

The shows are laden with Audis, Ferraris, Mclarens, Lamborghini Gallardos (which I still like but seeing too many wears on me), Vipers, 5th/6th Gen Camaros, Corvettes (mostly C2/C3 and C7/C8's), Challengers, S550/S650 Mustangs, JDM, E30/E36 BMWs, and 60s/70s muscle. Sometimes you get John Voight's K car, the periodontist, not the actor. You get the occasional 3rd gen/4th gen, but they are rarities.

Last edited by lees02WS6; 06-22-2024 at 08:36 PM. Reason: forgot about the corvettes

I'm a gen X'er, so right in the middle of those two groups. And, aptly so, my collection has always been split between '70s Detroit iron and 3rd/4th gen F-bodies. The '70s cars were already somewhat "old" when I started driving them, but I was able to buy two 4th gen F-bodies brand new so they strike me in a different way. I still love 4th gens, otherwise I wouldn't have owned four of them and kept my current one for 20 years thus far, but they just don't have that "classic" aura to them, at least to me, at least not yet (if ever?)

Since buying my current Cutlass, it's become my favorite car to drive. I don't even take the Nova out as much as I used to, and the poor Camaro is just barely able to drink down one tank of gas per year at this point.

They are too modern looking even to this day.. The hidden headlights should be a clue but far too many 'regular' folks think the car is new vs old.
My wife and I never tire of the design. We have NEVER owned any car this long.
A recent early 2024 trip to FL.

My '98 Z28 is currently the record holder for the longest car that I have owned, 20 years and climbing. But I've owned at least one 4th gen F-body at any given moment for 25 years and climbing. I don't have that kind of record with any other platform. Something about these cars just keeps me interested even after all these years.

You guys need to come to Ohio in July and August. We have the Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk and then the Trans Am Nationals in Dayton. Hundreds of Firebirds of all generations.

I would really like to attend but the summer heat would be a problem for us as we get older. I would be OK but my wife really can't take it too much and I certainly don't want to go by myself. I enjoy the photos each year anyway. It always looks like a blast.

Yah, I check out Pontiac nationals online, but have never gone. I miss Pypes Pontiac car show, it was around the corner from me and had a good turn out. I think Pypes stopped doing the show in 2018.
