Default WS6 owners get in here!

I was looking at my ram air hood at the 2 baffles that deflect the air flow before getting to the air filter. Has anyone cut the baffles out so the air flow is direct from the hood right to the air filter? Would this harm anything?

Usually if someone does this it's to use the BG Ram Air system. I doubt it would hurt anything...but you'll get more water in the engine compartment when it's raining, plus I doubt you'll get any gains from it if that's what you're thinking.

I've had the BG ram air mod on my car for a couple of years now. It's a great system and I would recommened it to any WS6 owners over other cold air intakes. You can just take the baffles out, but the air won't go in smoothly.
Also, don't worry about water getting into the engine compartment. The most you will get is a drop or two around the air box and maybe a drop on the air filter. If you have a K&N, your good to go.

I would tnink if you are driving the car in heavy rain then yes that couldcause a problem. to much water in the cyl. "can cause hydro lock. not a good thing if your on the highway and eng. locks on you". dont know how much water can or will get in since I have'nt done that but have been looking at the BG Ram air kit.
question you guys who say have the baffle removed how often do you drive this car in the rain? dont want to steal your question but since we are on the subject I'm curious." My name is not george" . removing the baffles would increase pressure ram air affect therefore push the air more directly into the engine compared to the baffle being in place which restricts air and reduces air pressure. hope this makes since.

On my '99, I have not cut out the baffles because it is an anniversary edition. On my '02, I put a WS6 hood on, and I do not have the baffles in it. I have a paper filter and I have been caught out in the rain with it. I usually never drive the car in the rain, but one time I did get caught out in a pretty good storm. I opened up the airbox assembly when I got to my destination and the filter was pretty damp, not soaked, just a little damp. No ill effects ever came of it. If you are going to do this mod, I would do an oiled filter (K&N) and you should be good.

Thanks for all the info guys...I think I am gonna go ahead and take them out...even if they don't make any performance difference just seems odd to me to have a ram air hood then put baffles in it to slow the air flow down.

I put the BGRA on my car after I debaffled the car and notice a 25 mpg increase while driving home to IL from NJ, and my mph was up in the 1/4 mile. I highly reccommend(sp) it.

Another ? for you guys that debaffled your car. What tools or how did you debaffle yours. I don't think getting the actual baffles out will be hard but I dont like the look of the "nostrils" on the hood with the little tabs still in there were the stock plastic inserts were. Any ideas or comments? BTW slammed am you did a great job on the sig keep up the awesome work!!!

All you have to do is take a drill and drill out all the rivets that connect the baffles to the hood, then pull them out. They are in there with just glue after that and take a little force to pull out.

How did you guys remove the tabs that held clips for the plastic inserts on the Ram Air hood? It looks pretty funny with the inserts out and the tabs still there.

I want to remove the baffles but leave the plastic hood vent inserts. Is this defeating the purpose.
