Bad idea for that swap... For the money and crap involved you'd come out much better buying a car with the LS1 already. Probably come out cheaper too.

Wink

Sure you can make it louder with just the exhaust, but it won't sound like a V-8! The V6 cars sing their own tune which isn't music to MY ears... There is a guy around here who has ruined his V6 Firebird, and his loud exhaust makes his car sound like a tractor witha weezing problem...

you could get it sounding decent with alot less money than a ls1! usually they can sound pretty good below 3000 rpms, but after that :

True. My six isn't that' beefy passed 3k. Right now I have a magna muffler with stock piping, and about after 3k it gets really ugly, like rasphy ugly. I was planning however to get a borla cat back and some headers to see it that'll give it a more monster sound.

To get a monster sound you'll need a monster engine.

Thats not tru it will cost at least 8,000 for a ls1 f-body if you have a fbody you can get a engine wire harness and computer for like 3-4 grand and hopefully you are installing it your self. oh yeah you will need the exsaust too.

Class is in session:
1) engine, trani, harness,driveshaft, ACCESORIES..... $5k easy
2)exhaust used stock v8 junk..................$300 heads to tailpipe
3)TOOLS?!? $600 EASY
4)Gauges.......... $200 junkyard
5)fuel pump........ $ ?
6)MISC there's always stuff needed..... $1000

You could have been in the ball park to buy a used Z28 for not too much more and imagine the headache you saved yourself.

If you want an LS1 for you V6 Camaro, try to find a Z28 hit hard in the butt or side...drop the engine cradle(suspension, drivetrain, and all) and swap em around. I believe there are only about 6-8 bolts that hold it on(of course unbolt the tranny crossmemeber too). You should be able to pull the entire assembly out in one piece(including computer and wiring) and directly bolt it up. If the car is 93-97 model v6 car, you'll have to replace your dash wiring/gauges for sure too.

OR get a drivetrain and one of those "painless wiring" kits they talk about for around $300-500. I've swapped v6 to v8's in many 3rd gens. I am about to drop the drivetrain out of a totalled 99 T/A to go into my 00 T/A by doing the "cradle drop" method.
