This is a pretty broad request. You'll probably have better luck using the Search feature to find more specific answers to your questions.

go to the "new ls1 owners" section and look at the sticky titled JRP's superfaqs for commonly asked questions. Everything you'll ever want to know is in there.

I know for sure that the 00 factory exhaust manifolds flow better then 98-99 and equal the flow of aftermarket shorties. A lot of members have been saying

I know the slave cylinder changed. pre-2000 slaves suck. If you get an aftermarket clutch, get an 01 or 02 slave. -matt-

generally the only benifit of the 98 year was a slightly larger cam, and bigger injectors, thats about all i can think of, 97 was the intro year w/the ls1, so querks were mostly worked out by 98

The difference in cams between the '97-'00 and the '01+ cams are about .30thousands of lift at the valve and 2 or 4? degrees of duration. That pre '01 cam is nothing to brag about. The benefits of the '01+ engines more than make up for it. LS6 intake, no egr, better oil pump( some pre '01's die without warning toasting a motor),clutch hydraulics, '02 cars got the Z06 clutch, not sure when GM switched to plastic fuel tanks instead of metal, valve springs, newer design water pump(internally),better exhaust manifolds, the 241 clinder head castings are better than pre '01 cars, cam on the throttle body is larger so it opens in a linear manner instead of snaping it open (which helps low rpm vaccum slightly-something that helps if you have a rowdy aftermarket cam with poor low end vaccum), the '02 computer will turn the ac compressor off faster when you go WOT, which adds longevity to the compressor, some other stuff but I've typed too much already. Hope this helps!
