Sorry for the bump of an old thread... just wanted to add some info here..

They actually made 12 WS6s in purple.... 10 coupes, and 2 ragtops. 6 of those cars had 6-speeds - two of them are owned by myself, and LSWON. He's actually told two different versions of that story with conflicting production numbers in them. He has AQ9 seats... wish I did.

I'll tell you in a few days if the "3 days" story is accurate... I don't believe it is. If it is true it would mean both of my cars would have been built the week of September 12th, 1997.

BTW... Bright Purple Metallic cars aren't really commanding a premium price like everyone seems to believe they are.... yes, they are very rare, but it's also a color that gets a mixed reception from most people. A lot of people don't like it... I constantly get razzed about the color of my cars, especially now that I have two of them.

I paid $9500 for my Formula... and $12K for my WS6.

Yeah, purple gets a bad rep these days. But it used to be respected as a 'royal' color

I know a guy near Indianapolis that has a '98 Purple M6 WS6 'bird. His vanity plate says "1 of 6".

I actually got my Navy Blue Metallic Trans Am in December of 1997. I'm pretty sure it was available from the start of LS1 production.

Nope.

NBM replaced BPM when it was discontinued. My Formula was built in September, not sure about my WS6... All the BPM cars were really early in the model year, though.

You happen to notice that someone lifted it wrong and popped the front fenders?

BTW... at this point I've found that most of the story above is absolute horseshit. I'm not sure where this guy got this information from other than pulling it out of his ***.

There are more than two purple 6-speed WS6s with t-tops, because I know of at least one more besides his and mine.

BPM was made more than 3 days. My Formula was built in September, and my estimates on the WS6 are that it was built in February.

He also told me (as you can see in his guestbook) that all purple WS6s came with articulating seats (AQ9), and suggested that mine was fake, but the RPO codes on the car tell another story.

I'm going to have to take it upon myself to find out the real deal here... I hate finding out that data passed off as accurate is bogus.

The first e-bay car is the one i bought. bought it from a car lot in California. Found it on cars.com. shipped to Georgia and heres the good part, for $600.00 from CAto GA.

i called the guy about it and the next thing i know its on e-bay.

only give 8k for it , everything works some *** put in a aftermarket radio and cut all the wires , so thats been fun.

Anyway it's a m6, AQ9 with tan or tope interior and SUCKS , black dash, black console with black armrest, and every thing else is tope. headliner, seats front/ back , door panels carpet 1/4 panels and rear panels .

just look at any carboard box and thats the color.

the build date is sep/97 so it has to be one of the first late model 4th gens built.

trying to replace all of the dam tope with black.

Your car was probably on the line at the same time as my Formula. It was built Sept 12th, 1997.

Damn, man... I personally would leave it taupe. I think they would look great that way. If I changed it, I would do the tan/black combination like you see in some of the later cars, I think that looks sweet.

Since 2 others in this forum state the have 1998 factory purple trans am WS6 6 speeds, I can verify that there are more than 2.

I just acquired one, which was factory ordered.

1998 Purple Trans Am WS6 6 speed t-tops, leather.

Sweet, man.. I think there are 3 purple WS6 owners on the site, all of us have 6-speed cars... and yes, there are more than two 6-speeds.. they made 6 total.

My car is WS6 #19, the 6th of the 12 purple WS6s built... 10 coupes, 2 verts.

My question is... did you get the articulating seats in yours or not? What to look for is on the RPO sticker... it would be AR9 (which would be a no), or AQ9 (which would be a yes).

AR9 = standard seats

AQ9 = upgraded seats with adjustable lumbar support.

I have met LSWon in the past, I think his name is Tim S. Anyway, I think this thread is very interesting. I've only seen his WS6 and a TA Vert in the Chicago area.
