Read all 420 posts, wish something would have happened with the lawsuit. Oh well. Also add mine to the list, passanger side all the way to the fabric. D/S half way down. What I did learn is that people need to actually READ posts before asking questions.

I try to convey to everyone that even if you don't have cracks the possibility that you will is Great. Better to take action before you have to worry about how to replace your entire door panel.
As mentioned, use wire/ twist ties or something similar when reattaching the weather stripping so it has room to move around a little bit. I'm still not a big fan of the nut and bolt idea propsed by HP magazine. Getting the staples out will probably be the hardest part of the whole fix

Thanks nichoLaS1 for posting that.

I tell ya if I hadn't of done that fix when I first started seeing the tiny crack in my driver door so long ago...I would now have two fully cracked panels.

So...once again, if you don't have cracks now....YOU WILL, so please save yourself some money and headaches and do the fix! haha

Good luck fellas.

Yeah I feel good about the small cracks I fixed. I wish I would have bought the car with a small crack (or no crack at all) in the passenger door as well, but unfort. it was cracked all the way through.. Here is my attempt at fixing it. Not perfect by any means, but it came out decent, actually a little better than I thought it would.. I'm hoping with some dye from a vinyl repair kit, it'll look even better.

P.s. For those of you that feel 'lucky' or whatever about not having cracks in your doors, listen to bandit; THEY WILL CRACK. YOURE NOT LUCKY. FIX IT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE. period lol. if anyone wants a more detailed explanation as to why they crack, ask. I'll give u my $.02

did both my panels last week. More of a pain in the *** than difficult. I could see where they both were under stress, they would have cracked if I did not do the mod.

car was in Florida and hawaii for the first 40k and 9 years of it's life and had baby cracks on both sides. with the cold here, passengers that slam the f'ing door, and major potholes surely did it in.

No, its not the tempreture or anything else. Its the staples on the inside of the door panel that holds the weatherstrip to the panel. (see all the staples)

I taken all the staples out except 4 and those I Loosen. Heres the tools I used............

After I had all the staple out, except the two on either ends of the door panel and the two in the middle but equaly spaced apart. But do loosen them.
(You'll know what I mean by Loosen the staples, when you try to get them out).
Then just to be on the safe side of things, I scuffed it up with a wire brush , then cleaned the area with rubbing alcohol.........

After it dryed, I applied a thin layer of epoxy followed up by a strip of screen (like from a window screen), then I put another layer of epoxy on top of that and let it dry and cure for a good 24 hours.

Then I put the panels back on the car doors and now I don't have to worry about my door panels cracking any more, knowing I did everything I could of done.

More likely sunlight (UV) causes the plastic to shrink. Since the staples are so tight, this puts stress on the panel. If you look at the ribbing on the back of the plastic, the cracks form at a spot that isn't well reinforced.

Sorry to hear that, remove the staples and thread a little grade of wire through the staple holes and gently pull gap shut. Then epoxy.

Please review all comments above.

I have the same crack on my driver side door penel and I am starting to think that its the material that its made off is to stiff and can not take the temperature changes

Its the staples - they stress the material because they don't allow it to naturally expand and contract. If you drill out the staple holes to allow for the movement of the plastic the problem is solved. You'll also see that the reinforcing ribbing on the back of the panel is weakest in the area that the crack develops. So, had that reinforcing been designed differently, the staples may not even be an issue.
