Your take on this Choice

im torn between a 98 red camaro SS m6 with 95k but very good condition runs great everythings good or a 2000 pewter Trans Am a4 good interior exterior is good to but few scratches with a little over 80k both are from a dealer and want my 93 t/a plus about 6500 which should i go for
The Trans Am looks better, is cooler, is more exclusive (more rare), has a nicer interior (especailly seats and guage cluster, as well as having vents perfectly shaped for accepting guages), and has wider wheel wells allowing for great ease of stuffing big rubber.

M6 can always be swapped in later easily enough. Plus the stock clutch isn't so hot, and the stock T-56 has some weaknesses as well anyway, so it's a perfect chance to spec out, and build a tranny and nice clutch combo and stick it in, rather than having to rebuild or replace an existing stock one.
The way I look at it, the TA has 15k less miles, but is in slightly worse condition. If someone took really good care of a car's exterior like the Camaro seems to have been, chances are they'd take real good care of it mechanically too- changing oil religiously, etc.
However, having had both an M6 and an A4 LS1 f-body, I'd have to say the A4 is more convenient as a daily driver, especially if you have a lot of rush hour traffic. But as far as driving fun goes, you can't beat an M6.

15k miles isn't all that much of a difference.
Both of those cars have the same crappy oil pump, rod bolts, older style lifters, etc.
If one of them was a 2001 then "it" would be the obvious choice.
Since both are the same mechanically, I'd get the SS because it already has 17" rims (the better 5 spoke style), nice hood/SS spoiler. The T/A with 16" rims will need an upgrade, plus hood, and you mentioned paint issues. If you got the SS, that would be money saved that could be spent towards freshening/modifying the drivetrain. ~Joshua

I love the TA's but in your situation of a TA and a SS I'd have to go with the SS.
Don't forget 1998 models dynoed lower usually. Really, it all depends really on which Fbody you prefer; Camaro or Firebird. I myself prefer Firebirds and I would choose the Trans Am. I love the looks of the Firebird. Even though I kinda wish I had an M6, I still would take an A4 Trans Am over a M6 SS... but thats just me.
I like the TA, but I dont like the color or the fact that its got an auto. Plus like they said earlier its an SS, that means its closer to a WS6, while the other is just a TA. Plus if I remember correctly 98 was the last year they actually put good suspension pieces in the SS and WS6 models.
If they were even cars or you plan on a lot of mods, I'd say get the T/A--based on just looks. But the mechanicals of the SS seem better if you want to keep it the way it is. Both are good deals, but the SS will have more "demand" down the road, since there are a lot fewer. Man, if you only had a 2001 (of either) as an option, this would be a lot easier....

Well the only thing with the t/a cosmitically is the back bumper is scratched up not bad though i just noticed it and after my thoughts today im leaning for the t/a im thinking i could go a little lower save maybe 500-1000 where i could just put a ram air hood on it anyway but its still tough the ss is more convenient its only about 15 min away where the t/a is over an hour plus alot of you are right i think the auto is better i do a ton of stop and go my area is being ripped apart by construction
You might want to check out the resale values on eBay for the SS vs the T/A. The T/A being newer helps, but the WS6 & SS are what everyone pays high $$ for. I don't think you'll be disappointed with either, but it's hard to view this sort of thing as an investment--at least if you plan on any hard driving.

Go with the 2000 Pewter Metallic T/A with the A4. Mine's a 2000 Pewter Metallic T/A with an A4, and it's a LOT of fun to drive! Like said earlier, if you plan to drag race it much go with the A4 (they're more consistent).

im not to sure on drag racing bc i dont feel like dumping money if something breaks but its going to be my daily driver anyhow i figure i might save 1000 by going with the t/a then il just buy a ws6 hood and a catback right away as for the SS i have to wait til monday anyhow and it sounds like the ss will be gone someone else on here was asking about it already to
Autos are the way to go for daily drivers.
Never buy a car for it's value. That's totally the wrong reason. Buy it because you want it, and only because you want it. Unless you're paying 6 figures on the auction block for something 30+ years old, you will lose money. You never get back the cash spent on upgrades, and mods, to say nothing of repair work, and fuel. Plus daily driving duties racks up the mileage somethin' fierce.
WS6 vs non is irrelevant. Both because value is irrelevant after you purchase it, and because the differences are so minute as to be inconsequential, and the most basic mods/upgrades will surpass the factory WS6 level anyway.
Plus a flat hood is a great way to sneak people if you're into the sleeper thing. lol
(force feed that bad boy (hate to do it to "Ram Air" models because it supercedes the "Ram Air", rendering it pointless) - a whipple on it would be *mean*!

You'll probably get better mileage with the non-WS6 model anyway (until you start modding), because the tires aren't as wide (less rotational mass, and less rolling resistance), as well as less trammeling. And for a daily driver, those are important. (Hell, you'd be upgrading past 275s in short order anyway, so it would just be a more expensive set of interim tires. lol)
