Default How much would it cost...

How much would it cost to make an LT1 bird look like a 98-02 TA? I saw a pic of one that was electron blue with flames on it. I know I'd need a front bumper, fenders, headlight covers, and hood. Is there anything else?

The only reason I asked was because my parents and I are talking about a new car. Right now, I drive a 96 4dr accord. It's a good car and works fine, I just want something else. My dream car is a 98-02 TA. Ever since I saw one (about 8 years ago) I've always wished that I could have one. The WS6 hood on a TA is just . I've tried to convince them to buy me a 98 TA (WS6 or not), but they are being totally **** about "how it's a V8, and I dont need that kind of power". It doesnt help that a kid just crashed his V6 fireturd into a ditch and died. Right now, they would only consider a V6 firebird. I told them my problem with them: underpowered, poser car, worse gas mileage than V8, and I still wouldn't be happy with it. I was wondering if they would consider buying a 96ish LT1 and I could convert it (appearance only). Thing is, I don't think that I could ever convince my parents to help me buy one. I love the look, feel, and sound of a V8 car, especially the TA. This is kinda off topic, but I'll put a list of complaints that my parents have brought up:

1) Way too much power
2) I'd be more likely to wreck/drive really fast
3) Insurance (not really a problem with a 98)
4) Gas (once again, I can afford an extra $4 per tank of gas)
5) Way too much power
6) Reliability (trust me, I'd take care of it)
7) Impractical
8) Cost (I could sell my accord and pay off 1/2 the cost of a TA)
9) Too much power

They have good points and I can't counter them. I just want one of these cars so bad. My 18th birthday is 5 months away, and I plan to have a new car by then, with any luck, I'll have one.

Hey bro, you need to start somewhere, get your *** a job, if you can't get a good job start studying on your own, im 20 years old right now, and i've been building computers since I was 16, Im buying my own trans am right now all by myself no co-signer with 4k down payment and rest is getting financed, my parents didn't help me buy my first car either I payed 5k cash for it and modded it to my liking too, don't mean to be mean but grow up a little and be responsible and buy yourself a V8, or settle for a v6 for now, have you be the co-owner through the loan for it so you can build credit, and then when you can afford a v8 on your own trade it in and buy it, just stick a ws6 hood on the v6 and be happy for now

Haha...you think I don't have a job....that's funny. I'm 17. I make $9 and can work whenever the **** I want to. I don't mean to be mean, but you thought that I was gonna have them buy the car for me? I wish. I'm plenty responsible, I just want them to help me buy the car. Right now I have $11,000 in savings (inheritance and job money). I could pay for a TA, but I wouldn't be able to due to my age. Also, sticking a WS6 hood on a V6 fireturd is like putting a VTEC tag on my accord, it doesn't do anything except make me look like a retard.

insurance on a ta is no joke, even with a 98 your looking at around 1400+/6 mo if your nearing the age i ams assuming you are using your parents to help get it.

I say save your money on making it look like a newer TA, just stick with the LT1 look and use the money to buy parts for when your parents do decide to let you use the full potential of the car

Default a few suggestions

I know about insurance, I'm 23 and live in NY. It sucks. second, I would really consider being more patient and if you have to, buy it on your own or even trade up the V6 or LT1 that your parents will help you with. (Not to sound old but...) at 18 I settled with a 3rd gen V6 camaro. And finally....
I sold cars for a year and I would pitch this to a parent... you have to by the WS6 to get the safest package at the right price. Get one with antilock and traction control and what else you could find and it would be easy to assume that it is safer than your honda/acura. Bottom line, don't spend money making an abortion.

Didn't mean any disrespect - i've heard it ranging in $2,000 for parts and paint, unless your painting it yourself, but if you got hookups i've heard it costing under >1000 to do a whole conversion, good luck bud

Do it once and never do it again. Keep your accord until you can purchase the TA you want. Even if you put a WS6 hood on a V6, deep down you'll know you won't be happy.

I agree... know in your head exactly what you want.... down to the very last detail, including exterior color, interior color, mods or stock?, what mods are ok, t-tops or not, manual or auto, everything you can think of... Imagine exactly what you want, and then don't settle for anythign less... Keep saving and don't jump on the first one you see... I just turned 21 in March, and i have two T/A's (see sig) and a litre-bike ... Save, save, save, and save some more, and then when that one perfect car comes along, you'll be ready for it...
and like someone else said, be prepared for the insurance hit, especially if you finance it and NEED full-coverage... my LS1, which is financed, is a killer on insurance... the LT1 whcih i own, is dirt cheap...
show you're parents you have responsibility with what you have and that you're mature enough to wait for exactly what you want... ** i'm not saying that you're not doing these thigns - i dont know - i'm just sayin in general ** nothing looks worse than a kid that gets a twinkle in his eyes and wants something so freakin desperately ... shows that he has a lot of growing-up to do...

be patient and GOOD LUCK!!!!

btw, i waited over a year for my LT1 T/A... test drove it for the first time 7 months before i bought it... just waited and waited til the dealer broke...
also waited 8 months b/w gettin serious about buying a LS1 and actually buying mine... test drove a countless # of them
and i waited over 2 years for my sportbike...

That is exactly what I meant, I posted over 3 months ago on this forum for the very first time saying I was going to get one, and now 3 months later have just barely purchased mine, good luck in whatever you decide

Man you really rag on the v6's. Why so much hate? They arent even that slow Plus how is sticking a WS6 hood on a v6 like sticking VTEc on a non VTEC car? I see why your parents won't help you, your too goddamn immature You even call the base firebird a "fireturd" but your damn username is "Firebirdfan" WHICH IS IT?!!!?

There's a lot of responsibility in owning a v8 car when your 18. Insurance is high, Gas is rediculous right now. I've only ever heard of v8's getting the same gas mileage on the highway as the v6's, never ever heard of a v8 getting better gas mileage on a routine normal basis.

Good luck in whatever you choose to do, but don't rag on the v6 when it's a damn good option for a starter f-body.

/end rant.
