WS6 Details
I hate to start a new thread asking this but I searched and I didn't come up with anything. Does anyone know if the 1998 WS6's had chrome tips or if any of the 4th gen ws6's had chrome tips from the factory. A buddy of mine noticed that I didn't have chrome tips and said it wasn't a true WS6 because it didn't have them. Although I'm fairly certain that my t/a is a ws6. But now i'm questioning it. Also is there a way to check the VIN or anything to see if its a ws6. Any information or a nudge in the right direction is greatly appreciated. Thx

If your '98 WS6 (check the RPO decal on the driver's door) doesn't have the SOTL, then someone's put a cat-back on it.

Thanks for all the information. Looked at the RPO codes and turns out it says WS9 on there. Aparently it used to be a formula and was converted over to a WS6. Just wondering though....did the formula use the same 'high performance' tires as the WS6...because it says to use the same type of tire the WS6 uses on the door jamb. Thanks again.

I think the Formulas and Trans Am's (Mine is a 1995 LT1 TA, a 4th gen too, and mine are in the glove box. Anyone else have this I never looked on the door for them because I found them in my glove box.) recieved the 245/60/16 or the 225/60/16 the ones with 245/60/16 size tires had no governer. Only the Firehawks, WS6 cars, and SS camaros recieved the 17 inch wheels.

Clarification......
All V8 Pontiac 4-gen f-bods will have RPO WS9:
WS9 : MODEL CONVERSION, FORMULA
(this is what seperates the V6 Firebirds from the V8 Formulas and T/As)
T/As will ALSO have WS4 in addition to WS9:
WS4 : MODEL CONVERSION, TRANS AM
WS6s will ALSO have RPO WS6:
WS6 : PERFORMANCE PACKAGE, SPECIAL
So a WS6 T/A will have WS4, WS6 and WS9. A WS6 Formula will have just WS6 and WS9. If theres no WS6 RPO code, it ain't a WS6.
For the 4-th gen Pontiac F-bods, WS6 included 275-40-17 tires & 17x9 rims (except for '97 WS6 'verts, which came w/ 16").
All LS1 ('98+) f-bods had the RPO decal on the driver's door. I believe all LT1 f-bods had the RPO decal in the glove box (I know my '94 Z28 'vert did, it's possible they moved it over to the door sometime later, but definately by '98 it was on the door).

Either way, it's a real WS6 and that's all that matters.

ALL TRANS AM'S START OUT AS A FORMULA!!!
All pontiac F-bodys start out life as a V6 firebird. Then you add the V8 option and it becomes a Formula, then if the owner wants a Trans Am they add the Y82 option which adds the T/A nose, side skirts, rear bumper cover, high rise spoiler, and the rest of the T/A options.
Your car is a WS6 Trans Am, it has not been "converted" to a T/A. It is just the way GM coded the cars when they setup the option packages.
Also the LT1 4th gens the RPO sticker was in the glove box or on the center console. The LS1 4th gens the RPO code sticker is on the drivers side door jamb.

Maybe I can clear up some of the confusion
WS9= Formula conversion Pkg
W66= Formula Merchandise Pkg
Y82= Trans Am Merchandise Pkg
WS6= Performance Suspension Pkg
Here are the codes and what they equal out to
WS9 W66 = Firebird Formula
WS9 Y82 = Firebird Trans Am
WS9 W66 WS6 = Firebird Formula WS6
WS9 Y82 WS6 = Firebird Trans Am WS6
