Here is a super clean '92 T/A that belongs to a very good friend of mine.

Hardly "boxy" if you ask me......

I had a 83 Z28 with the original 27k miles on it and sold it for 8,000 to a guy I work with, it was beautiful and it had a nice sound to it factory unlike our cars. It was carbed and drank the gas though and I couldn't imagine having it as a daily driver. The thing was a tank though and survived the walmart parking lot without getting hurt.

i miss my 89. I think one of the advantage of the 3rd gen is the instant "break neck" torque from the tpi engines and the stability in the turns. heres my old ride.

3rd gen Formula is the most aerodynamic F-body ever built. When they are clean and done nicely, they are also some of the best looking cars on the road and rarer ones in cherry condition they are selling for more than early LS1s...

If all you see is a slow car when you look at a 4th gen, you must be looking at V6 cars.

I love clean 3rd gens as much as anyone (probably more than most people), but there is no need to bash the 4th gens either. They are all cool cars.

Tell that to the tool who made the original post.

Slow third gen is a matter of perspective. Mine went 0-60 in 4.6 sec. off the showroom. Name me a fourth gen. that had a GM warranty that was quicker.
Boxy is a matter of opinion.

I agree that people shouldn't be bashing 3rd gens. I still love those cars too, I have very fond memories of mine. But sadly not everyone shares our opinions of these cars. I will always think they're cool.

Not sure on 0-60 times, but there have been a handful of stripper LS1 Z28s that have run very high 12s (12.8-12.9) in full showroom trim. Not sure if any showroom stock TTAs ever did 12s or not.

On average, the '89 TTA is about on par 1/4 mile wise with LS1 cars, from what I've seen.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say anything bad about the TTA. Those are awesome cars, and I'd be very proud to own one. Even today their performance is impressive and modability is second to none. The turbo 3.8L has a massive aftermarket.

the only thing I didnt like on the 3rd gens was the Old school front suspension design, put a rack on it and it would be awesome.

Werent the TTA the quickest stock F-body ever produced? I cant remember where I heard that.

I think thirdgens have more potential and more choices available.

Thirdgens are supposed to have better handling.
Thirdgens are supposed to weigh less (with the same engine/tranny combo as a 4th gen)

More rim choices, you can put on rims with 3rd gen or 4th gen offsets.

If you don't like the 3rd gen interior you can swap in 4th gen dashes, door panels, kick panels, a pillars, center consoles, with a little modification.

If you don't like the engines that came in thirdgens, you can swap in a LT1 or LS1. A Lt1 or LS1 in a thirdgen is easier to work on, more engine bay room.

More choices for exterior customization. There were at least 4 ground effects packages, at least 4 different front bumpers for non-gnd efx cars, at least 5 different styles of taillights, at least 4 different kinds of spoilers, that came with the 82-92 firebirds stock. Aftermarket has a lot of different hoods and a couple spoilers available, etc.

God I'd give anything for that Shame my 93 isn't special enough (even though it's like 1 of 1) to trade

It was posted before, but it still is such a damn beautiful car

I posted it before. It's truly a special car, it looks just as good in person as it does in the pics. Car has about 45k miles on it, and is currently in storage for the winter. The owner takes VERY good care of it. Every time I see the car in person, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The owner is a very good friend of mine. His name on this board is RPM Mark. You could send him a PM about a trade if you want, but I'm pretty sure he's gonna keep that car forever.

THIRD GEN!

What a sleek looking Bird!

Doesn't a 3rd Gen body still hold the World Land speed record for a stock body design? Everytime I see a 3rd Gen Firebird I get memories of watching Knight Rider.

Plus, my very first time riding in an F-body was in a 91 RS Camaro. ahhh the good ol days!

I give props to the guys with 3rd Gens that keep them looking good (as they should be) and I always throw a wave to the nice 3rd gens.

so i see that there is overwhelming majority supporting these cars, i didn't start this thread looking to **** half the site off, i wanted to know why they are good cars, i have driven a few and even one that was cammed and stalled but i still thought it was slow compared to my stock 1998 that i currently own, i personally didn't grow up admiring them or ever have wathced night rider so i don't have that nastalgic affect with them, i was just extremely dissapointed with there stock performance and i can't see anyone on here pointing out there supremecy in performing, the TTA is a nice car but it is also a rare car, so that is kinda like saying that the firehawk is the only reason you like 4th gens. and swapping out the stock engine is changing the ball game completely, my oriinall post was commented towards the stock performance of the 3rd gens that 90% of the people purchase, the Z28's, Trans-Am's, Formula's and the GTA's and Iroc Z28's.
