Give me a Break the Trans Am is still a Firebird just like a Formula and a Firehawk are still Firebirds.
And just to clarify some things the W66 (Formula) RPO actually predates the original WS4 (Trans Am) RPO. Although it wasn't named Formula it was the Firebird 400 for `67-68.
Regardless the entire line has it's own History and Performance Legacy, and it is our Job to spread the word to the next generation

W66,WS9 and Y82 are all Formula RPO codes.

As for spreading the word, sadly the next generation (which I'm sorry to be in (born 83)) doesn't give a crap :\ Otherwise, they wouldn't praise the ricers like they do.

EDIT: OK the Firehawk site says Y82 is TransAM, and I originally thought it was too. I knew W66 and WS9 were Formula though. I got Y82 from http://www.marshu.com/ws6-firebird-c...codes-2000.php
Which I didn't notice till this second time, it's 98-02 RPO. Don't know if that matters.

WS9 is called the Formula conversion package but all it really means is that the car is optioned with a V8. All Formula's will have the W66 RPO aswell just like all T/A's will have the Y82.
WS4 is the Original Trans Am RPO starting in 1969 and ending in `81 Not sure if it swapped to Y82 at this point or not.
Y81, Y82, and Y84 were originally RPO's for `76-81 Black S/E and Gold S/E T/A's.
Spreading the word about old cars and their heritage is not a lost cause taking a child to a car show is the best thing you can do. You can't fully appreciate what we have now without respecting where it came from.

I don't feel it necessary to explain my Formula to anyone. . . If someone gives me a hard time, I either give them a ride or have them line up with me, and I let my Formula do the "explaining". Otherwise, if someone wants to be a jerk about it, I could really care less about them. I don't explain it, a ride around the block is all the explaining that is ever required. . .

Some people don't know, some people are too stupid, some people are both and aren't worth the time to explain. Most of the time we're called a Trans Am, and we have to explain that a T/A is a Firebird, and that the T/A is a option package, much like what our Formula is.

It's silly most of the time.
It's not faster i have raced them STOCK for STOCK at the track and street and have had them by a car/car and a half.

Every LS1, stock for stock, is a drivers race...regardless of make/model (Camaro, Corvette, Firebird, GTO). They all put down similar numbers to the wheels stock, so there is no arguing that. Simply put, a 3.23 A4 or 3.42 M6 stock LS1 mated with an '01-04 setup will generally be faster than the same car, but with a '97-00 setup. But it will only be slightly faster, stock for stock, so that's why it's still a drivers race for any stock LS1 versus another.

I've never had to explain what a Formula is, actually. I have both a T/A and a Formula, and as far as I'm concerned, they're both Firebirds. not exactly like there's anything different between them other than a spoiler and ground effects.

Hell, I get confused look when I call my T/A a Firebird sometimes. "I thought you had a Trans Am?" Yeah, I do, but it's based off the firebird first..

A friend used to call his Formula a "Firebird GT" to the non-car people we hung out with, that usually clued people in.

Standard Firebird body, Trans Am underneath, usually gets it across. For those who prefer a little more subtlety than screaming chickens, giant wings, massive scoops, etc. And there are those times when I like people to think it's a V6 ...

I refer to my car as , "My Firebird". Sometimes I get that little "oh its a V6" look from some of the ricers on the road. I just rev it up to 4k rpms and that look turns to "oh sh*t"

That is the greatest thing in the world to do to little Ricers lol. Hell just did that a couple days ago to one and he scurried off to his little ricer cave.
