Default What fuel to use

OK guys I've had my formula for almost a year now and I've put nothing but super, premium, whatever u wanna call it with the highest octane. I could give a sh** about the price as long as its the best for my car. My friends are like oh it doesn't make a difference what kind u use your just paying extra for no reason. OK so the question is what do u guys use and does it make a difference in performance or am i really paying extra for no reason. also is there a best brand of gas to use. (Exxon Hess or something else??) Cause I'll start using that

Always looking forward to your helpful info thanks guys.

Well pontiac plainly states to use 91 or better. And some say it can cause your car to knock if you dont use the right octane.

I run 93 from whichever gas station but preferably use shell 93 v power.

all brands are about the same. there have been endless threads about this. it doesnt matter whether its exxon, shell, mobil, getty, etc. 90% of the time, theyre the exact same gas. the only difference is if they add and additives to their gas. and who knows if they do or not. just get the cheapest, name-brand super you can find.

and yes you need super.....for our cars, they have enough compression that you need super. on a normal motor, regular is fine.

Rent the old movie 'Two Lane Blacktop'. After you watch that, just pull into the station and tell them you want 'high test'. Watch their brains go into neutral. Then just tell them premium.

All the gas in the country is made by a few refineries. It's the actual station that matters, and the condition of their tanks.

I always use premium, usually from BP since my dad works for them, I have had regular in the tank before but the car seemed to run a lot rougher, that might have also been since it was speedway gas though..

It does seem to run rougher or choke when you first give it alot of gas while running the cheap stuff.

HIGH-TEST is a very well known phrase actually, all over.........[sucks you can't fill your own car in OREGON, huh.]

I use the same Mobil station when ever i can.
It make it easier for me to rule out Bad gas when I'm trying to diagnose a problem.

Best Unleaded Gas?

#1 - Chevron 93 with Techron - GM and Ford import it to MI for mileage and HP testing - if your state has it, use it!
#2 - BP 93 (or if you can find it Ultimate Plus - 94 / 95)

I second Chevron; in my daily driven Vette of course but I use 112 ($7.25 gal.) for the race car TA due to my high compression ratio. It runs solid on this. I've heard though, that the higher grade the gas it takes away HP.

I know I'm going to get crap for this, but I used 87 in my 2000 T/A after I figured out that it made no difference in my mpg or drivability. When I took it on my 1800 mile road trip and ended up trading it it on the trip it got 26mpg regardless of what brand or octane rating I put in it, and I had plenty of tankfuls of gas to test that out on.

I use mid grade, 89 when I am in peoria and its 91 when I am in davenport. The 89 works fine but I am sure I am lossing alittle hp.

i really doubt it. im almost sure it says in the manual to use regular. i dont think the 3.8s have enough compression to warrent super. maybe with the supercharged ones, then yeah id run super.

You mentioned the brand name "HESS"

I've been to their refinery. It's probably the cleanest, best run oil dump in the world.

I only wish they exported to Atlanta, I'd use 'em everytime. clean.

I believe this is in the same vein as this thread...

Can any of you tell me why a higher compression engine needs higher octane fuel? And, what is the compression ratio range for particular fuels?
