You can get a sunburn through the glass. I usually keep mine off during the winter.
A couple of years ago me and my dad swapped cars, I borrowed his truck because I was moving. Called me up and and said his bald head was boiling This was in October, I keep the shades in when its really hot.

I absolutly hate the T-tops shades off! I hate the sun shining through and beating on me and my interior. I am also a big fan of having the cockpit of my car as dark as possible. Tinted windows up, t-top shades in, AC cranked up, thats how I always drive.

They came with the car, never even touched 'em, they just sorta sit in the trunk, every once and awhile, when my tops are off and the wind is right they'll blow up against my rear window, I dunno why I haven't taken them out....

Its not the sun burn reason i keep them on most of the time. Its that in the heat and the sun beating down around here will make the interior a f*cking oven. If one day i leave them off and another i put them on, and let the car sit for a whole day outside, you will notice a huge difference.
