Question Greetings 2nd Gen. Newbie Here looking for stripes

I have some questions,

1) I purchased a 1979 std firebird, w/301 cid. The car has been repainted the same silver as shown on the door code. The previous owner put a stupid trans-am bird on the hood. There is also strange looking sail panel birds, and rear spoiler bird on the car. Im having them removed before painting

2) I have taken the car to a body shop because it had been hit in the left front. This started a nation wide search for a new fender, I was surprised that I could not locate one at a fair price.. I found a person on ebay that had the 79 TA fenders and purchased them. I think this will look kinda cool on a car with-out a shaker hood.. At least thats what I keep telling my self..
I got lucky with a purchase price of 3k, for one owner car with 120k on the odo. and that the prievious owners son only put a flow master on it to try and make it sound cool.. lol

Ahh its resto-mod time...

My 1st. question is how was the stock car supposed to look? I can not find stock firebird pictures anywere, they are all trans am's..

My 2nd question is has anyone seen or put those racing stripes on a std firebird? I found the pics of a 1971 firebird with stripes, pictured below..

I was hoping to find a picture for the 1979 era..

Thanks in advance.

3. Any suggestions? don't put a bird on the hood or have a "shaker" hood. Every Firebird/Trans Am I see so far always has it. It would be nice to see a Firebird without one, that's for sure.. getting kind of tired of it.
I love the body stye, I was curious about the stripes, dunno what that would look like... Ive got those rims too

Im in the process of restoring it, the only mod done is the T/A fenders w/side air ducts. Other than that, Im planning on putting the correct sail panel & spoiler birds back on. I think there was also a small PONTIAC decal on the right rear ..?

Search for "Firebird Esprit", "Yellow Bird" & "Blue Bird" on your favorite search engine. They're all second-gen base-model Firebirds. The sail panel birds were actually emblems on some years.

Unrelated to the thread, but it pertains to your sig...Toyota Tundras are assembled in Vincennes, Indiana and somewhere in Texas.

Default Stripes

Ok, this is what I was looking for. The camaro style hood and trunk lid racing stripes on a firebird!

I wouldn't think it would look to good with the stripes on the roof, But just having them on the hood & trunk. would look more retro. this and the fenders would be the only changes to the car..

My car is platinum silver with firemist red int, so the stripes would be firemist red..

Comments?

If you put rallye stripes on your 'bird, be prepared to get flamed on by any die-hard Pontiac people that you ever come into contact with.....

It doesn't really bother me....it's your car, so you should only do what truly pleases you.

Thanks y2k, I like the pictures above. They would start at the hood to the fron windshield and from the rear window to just over the rear spoiler basicly the same as above.. The other choice would be like this.

the standard stripes would be cheaper, as the picture above is custom made..

The car was purchased in a joint venture, My father wanted to put another brid on the hood! Im trying to find a happy medium here...

I'd avoid the bird on the hood since that was a Trans Am deal, but as mentioned above it's your ride, so however you make it look is your choice. I'm not big on the "band-aid" stripes since it seems they are on a bunch of cars already, but again your choice...

Good luck!

Yeah this has been a real battle He has the mind set the bird will make the car look cool.. I've said till Im blue in the face its a Std Firebird they didnt have anything on the hood it was plain.......

So now we are at a junction with the stripes He really likes them. So I set out to find them. I have , and they dont look that bad.. It's better than a bird on the hood.....

This looks like an easy restore, The car is a one owner car. The origanl owner drove it for a few years then parked it in a garage for 8-9 yrs. When his son was old enough he let his son drive it, thus the loud exaust & trans-am bird on the hood..

I have always been a muscle car lover and like the stock or optional look that was offered for the car.. This has been a hard decision, I do not want to put a bird as it will look retarded in my book... the stripes are kinda the same way however they would grow on ya.. This has been a joint resto for me & my father.. He buys them & I do the work..
lol, if he sells them I get half.. so it works out.. Just giving a little history here..

I'm new to this forum, and almost fell out when I saw this picture! My Dad just passed away about a month ago, and he had a 79 Pontiac "Red Bird" exactly like this picture. He bought the car brand new in 1979 and no other man has driven it besides myself and my brother. The car is mine now, and I plan to bring it back to it's original glory (just for my Dad's memory). Thanks guys, this gives me the motivation that I need to get this done!
