Default Check out this 68 TA Vert!

We went to this little small town show last weekend...as we pull up I get out to ask where I can park my truck and trailer to unload and this guy (an older guy...probably in his 60s) walks up to me and says how pretty my car is, and says he has a Firebird in the show too. He asked me when I get it unloaded if I would park beside his...I said sure where are you. He said on the on the other side of the square...its a 69 Convertible. SO I unload and get around there and his 69 Firebird turns out to be a 69 TA! First thing I asked was if it was a real TA and he said "yeah...I have had it for 25 years!" He really had no idea what he has! It turns out this was the first time he ever showed the car and he takes it driving on the weekends (he drove it to the show BTW!)

(BTW...I still got 1st place but felt a little guilty about it!)

Ok, just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one thinking that.

Great looking TA though. "Can I take 'er for a drive?" is all I would've been able to say

Beautiful car, but I seriously doubt that he "had no idea what he has" from the sign posted on the aircleaner. That's a 1/2 million dollar car at the right auction if he has good paperwork.

He had no idea of the value of it...he knew what it was but had no idea the car was worth anywhere near what it is. Trust me.

I don't have access to my Pontiac Bible at the moment otherwise I could verify the Vin.
But I can tell you the Air cleaner is incorrect, It should be a lower pan with the Foam and the Air filter is housed in the Hood above the upper pan on all `69 Trans Am's.
everything else looks good. And it's one of the 4 4spd T/A verts.
They made 4 auto's and 4 manuals all behind a 400 R/A III

+2 on the ugly Air cleaner And that looks like a Holley carb not a Q-jet.

That is a really sweet car. I have never seen one of those. I really like how the rear panel is blue, that looks really cool.

This might be a stupid question...but I'm not a Firebird guy (Camaro's are my thing). Anyway, on the 1st gen cars...what did the Trans Am package include? I assume it was a performance package, but was it comparable to the Z-28 package for Camaro's or was it something different?

I know....it wasn't restored to near the level it should have been. Thats the said part....but its also cool that he did know to what level attention it deserved.

If you get a chance check the VIN and verify it....I would love some confirmation on it.

(BTW I dont think they came with cheap *** Accel spark plug wires either!)

If it's the real deal then kudos to that guy!
But in the back of my mind I see how easy it would be to clone one.

No doubt, I've seen a few clones around. While there were only 8 orignially built, there's got to be a few dozen now.

Yeah, even the one that YEAR ONE owns is a fake. I didn't research the car or anything, but I am usually good at sniffing out BS cars and from meeting the guy and talking to him I have no reason in the world to think he would "clone" one. Like I said he has owned the car for 25 years and wasn't bragging on the rarity or the value of it at all. Small things that were not "correct" on the car make it more valid to me...after all if you were faking one you would have gotten the right air cleaner, plug wires and carb for it. I have made much more of deal about the car with this post than he was. In fact he kept saying how much he would love to own a "late model" one....and believe me I offered to trade (my car and my 2008 F350 for it!)

But thats a mute point...the VIN is right there if anybody wants to confirm it either way.

Good eye on the Holley Carb
I obviously wasn't paying enough attention.

I've seen several clones aswell, I don't have a problem with clones as long as they don't try to pass it off as the real thing.
