Default got to test drive a g8 gt

first thing i gotta say is. im very impressed with its grip off the line. im amazed at how i was easily able to launch almost wot from a standstill.

im almost positive i could easily pull a sub 13.6 in the car stock. i ran 13.5@105 in my ta back when it was stock. and the g8 gt i test drove pulled alittle harder and def got out of the whole a lot quicker. which i guess gives credit to those goodyears on it. i was surprised when i noticed the rear wheels were only 245s.

I drove one today also. Its been awhile since i have been in anything with some power but it felt pretty good, I though it ran a lot better than the ram air ta i drove in 2000. Off the line for sure, the shifting sucked, and i am not sure if i had it in traction controll or not but i dont think it spun much at all.

I wasn't impressed....the GXP might be pretty cool though with its better braking and LS3 with a 6spd

the slushbox GT kinda sucked though

yea the shifting was slow. a transmission kit could probly work wonders on it. shifts need to be firmer

I've agreed since day one, this tranny is a 6speed version of what's in the Escalade truck, and unfortunately, it still shifts like an Escalade truck.

I just ordered a tune which drastically changes the transmission controll module.
It also takes out the torque management.

As soon as it's in, I'll be sure to let everyone know how much it changes the shifting characteristics.

I don't think they make shift kits for that tranny yet, but tuning the tranny/motor does wonders for those cars

^GM's TCM update improved the shifting 10 fold!

Vector's TCM tune is good from the reviews I've read on the G8 boards, and they recommend to leave some of the Torque Management in, which only their software can do. W/ HPTuners the only options are to have TM or remove it, can't reduce it.

AHHAHA post 666 !!!!

What about EFI Live? Does anyone with a G8 have EFI?

Not True. HP Tuners has a beta version that allows you to tweak the TM settings vs. just enable disable.

You can tweak them so shifts are smooth and soft while cruising and then breaks them loose on the 1-2 shift WOT--all with TM enabled, just tuned.

There's plenty of params in HPT to get it to shift just they way you'd like no need for a shift kit or a proprietary tune.

I almost bought a '08 GT a few months ago. I loved the huge trunk, interior space etc. What killed the deal was that dimwitted transmission. OMG I just couldnt stand how it shifted at WOT. That and it always seemed to want to get to the next higher gear in such a hurry with part throttle.

The TCM in these things is terribly safe...how so? try 20*+ of timing pulled on shifts before I had it tuned. Take a ride in a G8 that has a custom tuned TCM and you'll remember why its the same tranny used in the C6's.

The 1-2 shift will throw the car sideways if you're wheels aren't pointed in a straight line and the 2-3 will chirp every time now.

Don't you know that its our job to buy GM cars and make them like they were supposed to be from the factory????

I just test frove a 08 GT i loved it but the only thing holding me back is there is no manual tranny which i must have in a car like this. But for a price tag of $23000 and 7k miles i think it is a great deal, but no manual i might have to pass on this deal

tell you what man the manualmatic in these things after a TCM tune will have you loving the car...and you don't have to break your left leg on a clutch.

Oh, I didn't know that HPT had the beta out. Heard some rumors but didn't follow it closely.

I do know that Chuck @ CoW (Corvettes of Westchester) in Ossining, NY is one helluva trans tuner for Vettes and has done some G8s as well. If anyone is nearby there, that's who I would go to!

I know, I was in DFW last weekend and when I heard he was going to be there, I started raging!!! I would've been more than willing to go the extra miles for one of his tunes. Oh well, gotta go the mail order route I guess.
