Dont DONT act too interested. Leave and come back several times if you have to.
PLAY HARDBALL.
Don't be afraid to shop around. If you want a good price you have to play rough. Keep coming and making offers and leave if they don't give you what you want.
If it gets low enough take it. If not just walk away.
Ask to see the invoice on the car and make an offer from there. Tell them other dealers told you XX XXX.
Whatever you have to do to get the job done.

Yeah brand new 2009. One dealer played too much. Make sure you get your research done. Make sure you know costs, options, invoices, etc. I knew what everything was going in. Sport package is $900 and Premium is $1200, sunroof is $900. There have been price increases. The sticker on cars before them should be around $33k with an invoice of $31k. Stryker blue is not extra... but it is VERY hard to find.
Like people said, don't look too interested. Get the numbers out, see what they best they can do is, and make sure you give them a price that you say you need to hit to buy. Don't be afraid to walk out. They will call you, trust me. I once didn't make it off the lot before they called. Another good tactic is to go in and say that you test drove 2-3 other cars in the same price/size category that the dealer doesn't carry. I told them I drove a new Infiniti G37, Subaru WRX STi, and a Lexus IS350. That will make the dealer visually perk up. Works every time. Give them the lure that they will lose your business.
So I did this with one dealer... called another 30 minutes away and said, "I just wanna know what you have on the lot, I've already driven so just want to talk price." They told me that they could match or better any price a dealer has given or they would buy my gas. So I went. I told them that one dealer told me $26,800 and they got the price. That was $900 less than what the other dealer actually said. lol Lying also gets you places. haha It was the easiest thing I have ever done!!! Now if I wouldn't have been mesmerized, I would have said, "Ok you matched the price, now can you beat it?" lol

Oh god I can't agree with you more. Also, be very careful not to agree to any extras after you settle on price. They tried to sell me insurance on the car if it got stolen, insurance and protection on the wheels, tinting the windows, extended warranty on the car....
You could go for the middle option each time and still add 2000 onto the car. Don't feel like you got a good deal and then get bullied into adding on a bunch of **** at the end while the loan guy keeps you at his desk forever talking about that stuff and how it only adds XX dollars a month onto the car payment.
You are going to carry insurance on the car anyways so just say no. We are looking out for you bro. Get a good deal. But remember you might not get it all the way down to the golden bottom lines we mentioned. Do what is right for you.

Here is another tip. Tell them that you test drove and you are planning to test drive other cars. When they hear that, they will go low to keep you there. An example was, we were shopping around for a car for my mom, and at the Honda dealer, the guy dropped the price of an accord from 28k to 25k just because I told him I was going to try out the Altima. HAHA

Tell them you've witnessed numerous people get them online for under 27. Say you want to cut the bullshit and want the same deal. If they say no, email every dealer in the area and see if they're willing to do it.

You are going to be able to deal on the gt's easier than the gxp's right now as the dealers know the gxp is the more limited model with only 1829 of them made.
The gxp is going to be in the $41,000 range before any discounts, there is $4000 in rebates right now.
Now unless you can get gm-employee discount or some other gm-supplier discount i dont see you getting a gxp for much less than sticker minus rebates.
My deal was this...
$41,900
-gm-employee
$38,239
-$3000 rebate at time
$35,239 was my deal, plus i got another $2500 in dealer rebates on my trade that the selling dealer was willing to throw in order to make the sale.
Dealers will deal when they know the chance of the sale is almost 100% which in my case it was due to my age, income, and credit rating.
When they are not sure the deal isnt going to go through or be serious is when they start playing the games.

My friend is shopping around in the philly/jersey area and the best price he got was 31,6k. He will buy at 30k right on the spot, but he is having a hard time finding a dealer even with some lying involved. This is for a g8 GT loaded without sunroof.
