I have had the DDM 6000 35W kit for almost two months and it is the best mod I have made to my car.

Everyone should get one.

Don't get the DDM harness, though. It is built well but only made of 16 ga wire. Totally useless unless you want you hids as DRLs.

35w will not melt the housing, 55w will.

DDMtuning is back ordered BTW. So it might take a few weeks to get the kit.

Only thing I don't like is that the module doesn't have a flange to help with mounting. I had to make a metal strap with some 1 sided sticky tape foam on the inside of the strap.

My Ebay kit has the slim ballasts and they have a mounting tab with a hole in it for attaching them to the car. Plus they are fully digital for longer life and no radio interference.

Good color temp! Probably matches the stock highs and fogs better than 6K.

I recently added HIDs to my GXP. I have been buying kits from xenondepot.com for about ten years now for numerous vehicles and have never had an issue until now.

For whatever reason my latest kit from them would not work on the driver's side. I originally had the positive connection to the relay connected to the positive post on the driver's side under the big red plastic cap and it grounded on a big bare bolt used to ground other electronics under the hood. It would not fire. I tried it on the positive post on the fuse box on the passenger side and it still wouldn't fire. I reversed the pins in the headlamp socket and no luck. Using the same connections the passenger side lights fine.

I sent it back to them and they bench tested it saying there are no issues and they want $45 for the testing and return shipping to me. I am kind of at a loss right now on how to proceed getting it to work.

Wow for $45 plus shipping you can practically buy a new set of HID's, that's a slap in the face right there. Disconnect the relay harness and connect the ballasts directly to the stock bulb sockets and see if they work. That's how I have mine connected and they've been working perfectly for over a year now.

That is very bad luck. I am sorry to hear that.

What can you do for the brights, guys? I don't want hids for brights because they switch too much and the brights are pretty puny compared to the lows now.

You can use Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's for the high's, they are brighter then the stock bulbs.

More or less I am scared that frequent switching of the HIDS operating as highs will result in having to replace them frequently.

They are 100% safe to install due to the G8's built in cutoff. I haven't had any people flash me unless I had a lot of weight in the back of the car (500 ish).

Figure 1: Observe how the highs add almost no apparent light to the picture.

After the hid install, the highs don't feel powerful because of how bright the lows are and the hids overpower the highs where they overlap. Driving on rural roads reveals an area that is covered by the highs only; a dark and muted void compared to the low beams! It doesn't give you that safe well lit feeling that hids do. However, this is my perception. Almost every car I have had the high beam area is much brighter than the lows and I care about the area that is farther out being better lit when I am driving fast at night.

I would never switch back. HIDS are a epic improvement in the safety and fun factor of the car and they cost almost nothing. 6000 gives it that BMW look without being too blue but it will not match the fogs and highs. It is hard to imagine a year ago I was driving a F body with such shitty lighting compared to this car.
