I heard that you have to drill out the housing and if that is true I would say don't do it for sure.

There is a guy around here that has HID's on his, I'll try and get some info on them. Drilling is definitely a deal breaker for me.

No joke. I want to put HIDS on my G8 but the last kit I tried didn't work so well (different car). The bulbs kept burning out shortly. Modifying your housing kind of leaves you no back out plan.

You don't have to modify the housing, just the plastic backing cup behind the bulb. It's not a big deal, and you can allways get more from the dealership for a few bucks - not expensive. I did my own and love them. Work great and look great with the sealed beam headlights.
These are some of the best in the biz. I know Justin personally and he really has a quality product and he back it up. I don't trust ebay kits - too many problems and not worth the money.

If you order, tell Justin that Mike from Mobile One with the White G8 sent you.

I have HID's from Ebay and they work great. I plugged them directly into the stock wiring then pulled the DRL fuse, and they never give me any problems. I used a 1" diameter pointed wood boring bit to drill the holes in the dust caps and it cut a nice clean hole in them.

Not saying all ebay kits are bad, but it's definately hit and miss. Sometimes you get a great deal, sometime you get lemons. That is just the nature of ebay.

I agree with you, it's best to buy from a seller than has a high feedback rating, then there shouldn't be any issues.

www.ddmtuning.com

they have a "raptor" kit for $30 with LIFETIME WARRANTY! I've had 4 sets of these and many of my friends have put them in their cars and have never had a problem. They have 35w and 55w in all different temps and all different bulbs. The only problem with the 55w is they will melt some of the smaller housings like fogs. I have 35w 5000K in my lows and fogs and they look and work awesome!

Thank you for your responses!

How much brighter than stock are the 35w?

Will the 55w causes any melting issues in the stock G8 headlamp housing?

The 35w HID's are twice as bright as the stock bulbs. I don't see any need to get the 55w kit because they won't be that much brighter.

I don't know exactly how much brighter they are than stock but the 55w are 40% brighter than the 35w according to them. I don't see that much different in the kits I've done for people or myself but for another $10 I suppose every little bit helps.

As fas as melting, I doubt the 55w kit would melt the HEADLIGHT but it will melt the FOGLIGHT. A lot of guys say the 35w kit is even a little too much for our fogs, on mine after 6 month, the chrome film on the back of the housing is a little wrinkled right around the bulb but nothing is melted. I love how they look and the fogs are bright as hell.

For one DON'T get 35w HID's for the fogs as they WILL melt the inside of the housing. If you're going to get HID's for the fogs then get 25w, but even those now are having melting issues.

Stock our G8's come with 55w low beams and 65w high beam bulbs. HID's run much cooler so there won't be any melting if you go with a 55w kit.

Have you had a 55w HID kit??? I do and there definitely is a difference from 35w HID's. (I'm speaking from experience.)

Maybe there is, I said the 35w HID's were more than bright enough. Plus you don't need a separate wiring harness like you do with the 55w HID's.

well if there is melting going on anyways with the 25w, why not just get the 35w for the fogs??

i agree with redhot, the 35w is plenty bright.
Speaking from experience too, i don't think the 55w kits are THAT MUCH brighter, definatly not 40% over the 35w.

and the HID's do NOT run cooler than stock bulbs. i just did a set of fogs for my buddies denali which had a 894 55w bulb from factory and if you would put a set of 55w HID's in them it would end in a big pile of melted plastic!

I think I might try my luck and order the H11 kit for the headlamps but I won't mess with the fog lights. The fogs switch on and off with the highs and the extra switching sounds like wear to me. Also, I am not going to mess with the highs.

Just low beam hids.

I think I will order a 6000K or 5000K kit and try my luck.

I have 5000K in just the low beams and they light up the road great. I don't see any need to put them in the foglights.

Because 35w HID's WILL melt the housing and there has only been a few cases of 25w HID's melting the housing.

And again yes HID's DO run cooler than halogen bulbs, because they run much more efficiently. Better efficiency at the same wattage means less heat.

IDK if you would consider the chrome wrinkeling "melting" but my 35w in the fogs are fine. and yes if you're in an area where you are flippin your highs on and off a lot then no need for the fogs but i'm mostly city driving so i wanted the same look in both.
