i have been asking myself the same question lately. As a father i think my daughter deserves to be comfortable in the back seat but as a car guy i want to keep the power or as close to it. I went to the dealership and looked at a silver gt and id say go for the G8. You will no doubt miss the fbody but it will pass, i have been through this once before when i got rid of my 30th anniversary Z for a tahoe.

I haven't looked at all of the other posts but I will say this. I was using my 02' Z28 (bone stock) as a daily driver for a pretty good while. After buying my G8, the Z28 has been sitting in the driveway ever since.
The G8 has just as much power and is so much more comfortable to use as a daily driver

I went from a cam and heads Z28 to the G8. Had the Z28 for 10 years and 160000 miles. The G8 is a much nicer car to drive. Could be my age, but I like the smoothness and quietness of the G8. My regrets with getting out of the Z28 are the lack of power compounded by the G8s extra 700lbs of curb weight, the Z28 also had much more storage space (not people space). If I didn't have a 4 week old newborn I'd still be driving the Z28.

I test drove a G8 this weekend.
I wasn't impressed. It had just as much wind noise as the T/A does. The power door lock, mirror controls, and power window controls on the center console near the cup holders annoyed me to no end during the test drive. Felt slow. It needs the LS2's 400hp instead of the 360 it has. I wouldn't consider trading an LS1 Fbody in on one.
If you like your Fbody keep it.

The G8 GT comes with an L76, not an LS2. And the G8 GXP comes with a supercharged LS3. If anything, I'm waiting for the GXP. Do you know if the G8 that she was driving was a GT or just a base model? G8 GXP=13 second flat quarter mile and 4.7 seconds in 0-60. Not too bad for a heavy family sedan. Just imagine what type of beast it will become after modifications. One more thing, I'll take a G8 GXP over my 01' Z28 any day.
*edit* Just looked at the date when that was posted. No telling what was going around then. I wish the GXP had the supercharger in it.

0-60 in 5.3 seconds is normal for a stock LS1 Fbody also.

If i was still married and had my family living w/ me i would be driving a white G8.It's got the F-Bbody power in a 4 door family car how can you go wrong there. I feel bad for all the mustang owners when you pull up to a light w/ you family 4 door and you spank them.

My TA is stock with an automatic and I had no problem walking off from a G8 as I was spinning the tires all the way thru first and second gear. The G8 was a A6 6.0 and I wasn't impressed at all. The new camaro should be alot faster than a G8. G8's are nice cars for now but just wait till they get older and they'll have problems too. The Camaro is the only car I would buy, second to the Vette of course. If you're looking for power and performance stick with the f-body if you're looking for a comfortable ride I guess that's ok too.

ill put my .02 in. im a new proud owner of a 2000 m6 ss. 2 completely different cars for different purposes. i say keep both, one for a toy,one for the family.besides its almost paid off duh! if it were me, i bought mine used used for 12k so that means if i take out a personal loan for 18k ill have a 30k dollar super car for the same price as todays cars for 30k.plus it will be considered a classic one day. youll be the ol man tellin your kids these were the cars we had when i was your age lol= but true. if you really want the mods of the newer car, get a full suspension and ls3 swap for the 1/3 price. btw i have no kids if this is any factor against what i just said lol.

I don't know, I mean hell with an Intake, headers and x-pipe, and tune my big *** 4000+ four door was running 12.8s trapping 110 all night long in San Antonio, TX humidity and sucky track preps (2.0 60'). I get 18 MPG in the city and 29 on the Highway, can seat 5 adults very comfortably in the car and it turns heads every where because people don't see one every 6th car. Or you can always keep the f-body.

Rough Ride?!?
Let me tell you, my 2002 TA felt every bump and even little ones jarred you. The G8 GT is a much better ride by long shot. For a long drive there's no comparison--suspension handles as well without the f-body harshness. G8 has much less road noise and much less wind noise. Platform is light years ahead.
The G8 GT in stock form is severly limited by the computer. Most GTs can't spin off the line because of the TQM. Take it off or reduce it and you can really launch hard.
Is a stock F-body faster vs. Stock G8 sure, but G8's respond to mods pretty well and is all around a better car/platform. Better seats, better interior, better mileage, seating for 5, better stereo. And to be fair, it is a 6 year newer car.
Its also a little bit different focus, the F-body sacrificed comfort for performance, the G8 is more of a Mix. GXP will have much more performance, and probably be a little harsher on the ride side.
