Now you don't have to get the top of the line model to row your own gears.

I know the 2009 GXP is optioned to get a T6060-same as the vettes. Can't quote the source though, but it's coming with an LS3 which would make it cost effective with the vette possibly. I am most likely going to get one when the 2010 models hit, if not a new camaro

the Vice Chairman of Global Product Development at GM, during which he also revealed manual transmissions hurt the overall fleet fuel economy, as modern automatics are more fuel efficient than their earlier counterparts and even beat out manuals
glad they are doing it though

Yeah, I thought was kinda funny also. Show us the proof the auto get better mileage. If I go to the Pontiac lot right now, and go compare window sticks of and auto G5 with a 5 speed G5, Chances are the 5 speed gets at least 2 more mpg. Oh, wait here you go:
(Taken from pontiac.com)
MPG mileage EPA estimates
2.2L engine (manual): 25/35 (city/highway mpg)
2.2 L engine (automatic): 22/31 (city/highway mpg)
2.4L engine (manual): 22/32 (city/highway mpg)

auto will 99% of the time get better gas mileage if it has as many gears as the manual. that was the only reason most manuals got better gas mileage was because extra gears. and ofcourse now better cpu onboard the cars to monitor when to shift. autos now are far superior will shift quicker and at the optimal points and now with gm finally introducing 6speed autos its inevitable.

even with it being heavier and eating up more power and more moving parts itll get better mileage?
if so i might consider an auto for my new camaro.

Only the GXP is getting the 6 speed manual. I bet that's where the confusion was.

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer the 6 speed manual over auto, given that they perform the same. It's just way more fun to throw and row.

They are listening and the proof is in the GXP. It is a very small amount of buyers that opt for a manual transmission (something like 3%). With the 6 speed auto, there is very little argument to the advantage of a 6 speed manual, except for the fun factor.

And since GM likes to try to convince us all that Pontiac is now BMW I should also point out that pretty much every mainstream BMW can be had with a manual transmission.
