Default Does your steering wheel squeak?

I picked up my 04 GTO last Thursday.

Absolutely love the car.... but there is this annoying squeak in the steering wheel. Its really noticable, especially with very small movements. Its a plastic-against-plastic sound.

Im just curious if anyone else has encountered this. I haven't taken apart the plastic shroud around the steering column yet, but plan to if this doesn't go away soon.

I don't get any squeeking from the steering wheel.

Is it only on a certain direction?

Its both directions.

It gets worse when its warm outside. This morning it was fairly cool and i parked in the shade, and on the way to work it didn't squeak. Then i went out at lunch just now, and it sqeaked like normal.

Anyone have an exploded view of the steering column? Is there any point where plastic rides on plastic... maybe a rubber dust shield or something? This sounds like a simple enough fix, but i dont want to go ripping things apart if it was a common problem and someone had a very simple and direct fix for it.

I've got an 06 and it only squeaks sometimes, and usually when I'm turning left.

A few local GTO owners did the ignition mod this weekend and one of them had this same kind of noise. We look at it and it ended up being the two pieces that cover the colum rubbing the back of the steering wheel.

Just a thought.

My 06 does the same thing. I just learned to get used to it and the many other squeaks my car has.

Had this exact problem, took the steering wheel apart and a small tooth broke off and was rubbing agaist the plastic plate, it was easy to get to. Just take apart the hub where it splits and you can get to it from there

in light of the Walking Dead.......I need to revive this thread. I've got an 06 GTO with 35k miles and the steering wheel rubs the column cover. anyone ever devise a fix or this? seems the top left side is the spot where it rubs. I'd really hate to tear it apart and have to grind crap to gain clearance if there is a better way.
