what year should i look for
Big time noob to the GTO scene here. Know a little about them but just wanted opinions and facts on what year to get. I am looking for a ls2, although i would be happy with a ls1. I know a little about the cosmetic differenes but was wondering if the brakes are bigger or anything like that after 04?

2004-2006 is the year you should look for.
2004 had the flat hood, single sided duals, smaller brakes, LS1 engine with cable driven throttle body.
2005 had slightly bigger brakes, dual tipped exhaust, hood scoops, ls2, you could get 18's.
2006- the same as above but a door lock button and lighted steering wheel controls

I would choose a 2005-2006 GOAT. As stated above the Ram Air hood, LS2 Engine, bigger breaks, and the exhaust are more appealing to me then the 04 model year.
I think you would be happy with any of the years of goats though.

I would recommend an 06. You might luck out on one that still has a warranty, not to mention:
Nicest tail lights
The nice rear end
the LS2
and the faster seat motors (ive owned an 05 before this one and the seats are night and day)
But if you dont care that much about those little things id say get an 05 or 06. They are starting to go for some lower prices.

All GTO's are based off of the Holden Monaro... There is no AU vs. US GTO's....
'05 is the best year IMO due to the fact that if you look up the color/int/wheel combo's, they are the rarest and lowest production year. Some of them they made less than 50 in certain combinations... And some bad *** colors such Midnight Blue Metallic and the last year for Yellow Jacket. Also if you have an 05 the gauge pod from JHP is plug and play...

I own an 04, and the only complaint i have is the door lock button or i should say "lack there of". but other then that, its a blast to drive and with the corvette brake pad (twice the contact area) i see no difference between breaking. ( i have driven both very hard). all around fun cars.
I would say that all years will greatly benefeit from upgraded supsension parts, poly bushings and a set of coil overs all the way around. I have not gone that far yet. but, after the turbo it is next, especially the rears. GForce makes a set for dirt cheap IMO and have had amazing results and reviews.

05 or 06 is the only GTO I would go with.
Without a motor swap the LS1 will always be behind mod for mod on the GTOs.
I am also partial to the looks. Due to the extra weight the GTO really needs those extra ponies.
My bone stock LS2 05 GTO put down 333rwhp/327lbtq through an A4.

what part of the electrical system, the 2004 that uses a PIM to convert GM 8192 to Class-2 or the 2005-2006 that uses the PIM to convert GM 8192 to CAN?
The 2004 LS1 pcm that ran AU code to allow for lean cruise but not on a 2005+
Curious to know what you mean by electrical system?

not really, install the same heads on the ls1 and the ls2 power advantage is virtually none.

And what do you mean you have seen more ls2 fail?
I have seen a ZR1 with a shitty driver lose to a mildly modded Z06. Doesnt mean that the ZR1 isnt a better car.
