Same thing happend to me a couple years ago. They told me they were going to look at a salvage yard for a motor with around the same ammount of miles as mine had. I told them I'm not having anything from a junk yard put in my car. I pay full coverage for a reason. So they told me if I didn't like that idea then they would just total it and I could buy it back for X ammount. So I did and put a new motor in it my self

It didn't just "break". The engine failing was a result of environmental factors. That's what you have a deductible for. That's also why rates are higher in certain areas.

I'm assuming he meant that the city will be picking up the tab for his deductible/repair. I can't imagine another reason why he wouldn't have to pay a cent for the repair.

insurance will cover damage due to road damage. i.e. cracking an oil pan due to a nasty pothole.

It was covered under comprehensive not collision. And the puddle was decieving, im not an a**hole and usually avoid large bodies of water while driving, just in this case the puddle was higher then it was ever before. I lived in the area for 28 years so it should never of been that deep but it was. Things happen at times that shouldnt but thats life. Good thing is my car is back with all new parts and everything is working perfect, all i have to do is break in the engine now like a new car and thats that. Besides exhaust, intake, rims + tires, are there any other mods that can be done to this car that will really make a difference performance wise that arent in the 3500-5000 dollar range.

I can see a K&N hydrolocking a motor. I had a CAI box and the night I moved to Tucson we had a monsoon and the car hit a puddle just big enough that it took out the MAF sensor. I'm glad it didn't do anything else, but I can see it happening. The drivers side front tire feeds water right into a little hole in the fender that sits right below the air filter.

well it's the good ole american tude. not his fault. not his fault it rained, not his fault the water came over the road, not his fault he could not tell by looking at the side of the road and judge how deep the water was. good ole american. it is not his fault so someone else is to blame and he do not deserve to have to pay for anything.

It is exactly why our great country is in the shape it is in

lol.....I agree with the above post. Honestly if that puddle had taken out my motor I wouldn't have turned it into insurance....thats just a reason to buy a performance built shortblock and go to town. JMO.

Lol while I was sitting on the side of the road my insurance guy drove by, stopped, gave me a ride back to my house, told me it was covered and filed the claim for me...until then I had no clue this kind of thing was covered.
Insurance company wrote me a check for $5,599. I did all the shopping and work myself and built my forged 408 with the money... Still running my ported/ milled 241s, but saving for a great set of heads
