Does the M6 GTO have CAGS?
#3
I have a skip shift eliminator on the way for my goat. That skip shift crap is friggin annoying. Especially in traffic when you need to be going with the flow.
I see no purpose what so ever for a skip shift, accept to disable it!

1600 miles on my 05 and I have yet to get 'caught' by CAGS. Their is a little light on the dash that illuminates when it is going to send you to 4th instead of 2nd. When I see that, just keep accelerating in 1st a bit longer. The window of RPM, speed and throttle position that CAGS will function in is so small on the 05's you may never notice it.

It's like 16-19mph on the 04s I don't think they changed it.. I only got caught once or twice with it.. Spend 10 cents on a resistor to fix it.. (I programmed mine out - but that's not an option for you 05 guys yet)

CAGS = Computer Aided Gear Selection. Every M6 has it, including the GTO.
You get two messages/lights. One a "1>4" idiot light and if you catch it properly a gate layout in the DIC (Digital Info Center) in the center of your cluster with an animated 1 through 4 pictograph.
The CAGS eliminator solenoid from any T56 will work, or you could do it the same old Radio Shack way.

Programming is best as it removes the idiot light too..
Every GM V8 6 speed car has it.. If you have programming in your future just do the Radio Shack way until then.. Or deal with it - it hardly comes on.

Hang on... you're in first and the car shifts irself into 4th??? WTH is with that? Can you not move the shifter from first (unless that moves by itself) into another gear? Also... I saw it mentioned it's from 16-19mph, well when I took the 05 M6 on a test torture, I never got close to that window. lol

If you are in 1st, and inside the window a solenoid shuts off 2nd gear which is supposed to force you into 4th. Instead it tends to freak you out unless you were watching the dash, you end up fumbling with the gear shift which tends to be embarassing if you have a passenger..

Believe it or not, once you own one you'll find that it doesn't mean that you hammer it from every stop. There are times you pu$$y foot it out, CAGS enacts, pushing the shaft out (effectively blocking the gate for second) and since you're pulling in a down fashion, 4th is the next available gate.
It wasn't a passenger embarrasment that caused me to override it on my first M6 LS1 car, it was nearly getting t-boned because I was expecting to go to 2nd, instead routing me to 4th bogging the engine.

In all honesty...i'm just too lazy to go buy the resistor and do it...
