SubWoofer in the 06 GTO
So Im back to owning an LSX series car after my HHR SS took a **** "LETS NOT TALK ABOUT IT" lol. I was looking around for a way to maybe install a sub in it but heard of conflicts. The fuel tank is in the trunk and is said to muffle the sound. Is there any room for two 8 inch subs behind the rear seats? I want something clean and nothing that takes up the entire trunk. Thanks

I have 2 Kicker 8"s in the deck where the 6.5's were. At the same time I put some dynomatt type stuff all along the back seat area up to the deck. I'm not a huge audio person tho, so it might not sound the best to all ppl.

Mostly lurk here, made an account to help answer this, although I messed up my user name lol, should be Bulls729, you can find me on LS1GTO, G8Boards, etc.
It really depends on what you want, your budget, what you listen to mostly and how you want it to sound. Two "free Air" subs in the rear deck will sound better than stock, but it wont be that good. For me I could not relinquish the little trunk space we have in our GTO's, and wanted to stay on budget but have some decent low end, I found the perfect solution for me at least.
I received an AVH-P4300DVD as a gift so I had a new head unit, then I replaced the the speakers with Polk db6501 components and the rear sides with db651 Coaxials which was an instant improvement on all ranges Low, Mid, and High over the stock system. These speakers are running off the head unit. As for Bass I read a lot of good reviews on the Infinity Basslink powered sub, it is a 200W powered sub that fits in small spaces. I found one on Craigslist for $50 and installed it and let me tell you it exceeded my expectations for what it is. Its not the sub your neighborhood will here, but it puts out very crisp and correct low end and is enough to make your car shake, not only that but you still get trunk room.

I'm running two Kicker 6-1/2" free-air mini-subs in the factory holes after covering the rear deck in dynomat. The 4-channel amp does an adequate job of powering those as well as the two Kicker 6-3/4" speakers in the rear side panels, but they could use about 2x the power they're receiving. The only complaint I've had to date was the third brake light buzzing like mad under bass, but some polyfill seemed to quiet that down nicely. Once I replace the front door speakers with another set of the Kickers, I'll use the 4-channel amp to run the front/rears and pick up another amp to run the subs. Then again, I usually prefer to listen to the engine anyway!
