Default Anyone have the OBX catback?

There is one on the 6.0 M6 I bought and I'm not a fan of the sound. Does yours sound really high pitched at lower revs? At around 2K RPMs in 2-3-4 my wife in the passenger seat is like "shouldnt you be shifting" and I tell her the revs are low.

To some anything over 2.5k is over revving. Look at the people complaining about skip shift raising its head because they don't go over 2k. I believe that has a X pipe which will give better HP but slightly alter the sound. Add some real power mods before you throw money at a sound mod. You change the sound as a bonus.

Thanks man. I dont plan on spending much cash on sound though. I think I'm gonna chop the mufflers off and then if I hate the sound (which is likely) then I'll just have some different mufflers put on.

I actually have that catback, with Lt's and no cats. I actually, really really like it. With the headers, I've had stock pipes with x-pipe and Borla's. Then took off the Borla's, and put in Magnaflow muffler's. I liked the Magnaflow, and bought the OBX mainly for the stainless pipes, and was probably going to put my Magnaflow's in it. However, once I heard it, I sold the Magnaflow's. Here is a quick clip, not the best at all, but I didn't want to go crazy in an apartment. Oh and don't actually watch the video, I swing the camera around all over lol

Anyone got a video or sound clip of the OBX catback w/ everything else stock? I swear my GTO sounds like a asian tuner car. Its all quiet hummmmmm and zero rumble like all the vids on youtube of the OBX catback....I just dont know what all the cars on youtube have done to them other than the OBX.

I've got Pacesetter headers and no cats. Headers/no cats will change the exhaust note a great deal. It growls pretty good. Stock I had muffler deletes (I bought the car that way).

I know the OP got the catback with the car but seeing as the stock system is stainless I'm not sure why other people replace it with another set of stainless pipes when just a muffler swap and maybe a H/X up front was all they needed.

I personally don't like the loud pickup truck sound that a lot of guys go for. To me the GTO was and is a more sophisticated car that was really built to be a poor man's BMW touring car not a Mustang. Magnaflow or Borla have a civil, smooth sound but there's still no hiding a healthy V8. JMHO

^^^^ I agree. I had the H-pipe made functional in mine and it sounds great but not loud at all. I then went to a Corsa Touring and didn't like the sound, it was OK but not great. Sold that and put the stocker back on. It just has a great tone and didn't really hurt power wise as I only lost ~5rwhp going back to it and that was at 430rwhp. It flows surprisingly well for a small, stock exhaust.

My original exhaust, didn't look good after living its like up north, that's one reason I went with a new stainless setup. Hoping it stays nice down here in the South

The factory pipes are stainless and despite looks would probably outlive the car. Hell I went from stock all stainless exhaust to 2½" Pypes stainless X assembly back to Borlas and then aluminized steel custom bent tailpipes. The only reason I changed it was to go from the stock '04 2¼" pipes to the 2½" custom setup to support my HP. That exhaust will probably outlive me (winter stored in Michigan).

The exhaust would have out-lived the car, but the brown color got to me. I got a new 1 piece driveshaft, now a mirror like exhaust system, colorful suspension parts, next hopefully some sway bars, and some rear end parts. I like a nice underside as well, even though I'm the only one to notice lol.
